***Loser Winners Announced***

The Scholarship Committee here at Sub Pop Headquarters is pleased to announce our Loser scholarship winners for 2011!

First Place: Javier Caceres
He is a film student at Shorewood High School and has been involved in many incredible film projects. The most notable one, the “Shorewood Lip Dub” went viral, caught the attention of the Rachael Ray Show, and got over 1.6 Million views on YouTube. You probably have seen this video, but if you haven’t, you should definitely check it out! It’s the Hall and Oates Song “You Make My Dreams” that was lip dubbed and filmed backwards in one take. It’s really pretty amazing, and The Rachael Ray piece explains how it was done. We loved this kid immediately! He plans to study Media Arts at Shoreline Community College, then transfer to a larger university and study Video Production.

Second Place: Tanner Smith
He is a songwriter, a drummer and is a really incredible sculptor. He is from Sisters, OR and has been involved in Jazz festivals and many charity projects.

Watch this YouTube video with slides of his sculptures backed by a song that he wrote!

Third Place: Theodora Shure
She is an artist, a photographer, a singer, and has been a chair of the VERArt Gallery. (For those unfamiliar, The Vera Project in Seattle is a pretty rad youth run music and arts venue.) Theodora has been involved in several Seattle area non-profit arts organizations to boot. She plans to attend the University of Chicago next year. Since there are no video links for her art, her collage, painting, and photo are included at the beginning of this post.

Low on Sound Opinions!

The band Low, whose very excellent and very recent album C’mon we at Sub Pop released, not long ago recorded an interview and performance for the Sound Opinions radio program on WBEZ in Chicago. And, starting TODAY, that show is up and available on the Sound Opinions web concern. On it…

Jim [DeRogatis] and Greg [Kot] are joined by the Minnesota trio Low for a live performance and conversation about religion, rock and mixing music with marriage.

You should listen!

As of Monday, May 23rd, the show will also be available for download. And/or, you can find a list of stations which air Sound Opinions right here.

In other Low-related news this week, the people over at ran an item on the “Try to Sleep” video which stars “television icon John Stamos and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Melissa Haro.” This item.
