What People Are Saying About Twisted Teens:
“This is as real as it gets, hugely exciting — and strangely hopeful.” [The Holy Cross Tigers] ★★★★★ The Times

“Where most garage rock is designed to punch you in the gut, Twisted Teens’ songs seep into your bloodstream, tugging at the heartstrings while occasionally inducing hallucinations.” Despite the beery bonhomie and singalong-friendly simplicity of their tunes, the Twisted Teens are grappling with an increasingly complex tangle of contradictions and tensions.” [The Holy Cross Tigers] 8.0/10, Pitchfork

“Prolific and terrific.” [The Holy Cross Tigers] ★★★★ MOJO

“Twisted Teens are two of 2026’s true originals – a breakout band whose kooky, ultra-clarified vision outstrips the hype.” [Florida Water Blues]
The Guardian

“Twisted Teens use lost love as a trick mirror while balancing their signature interplay between hard (rickety shredding and Hollywell’s ragged vocals) and soft (singalong hooks and Santos’ sweet, sweet steel guitar licks). In the throes of a love gone sour and a swampy summer gone cold, they’re still serving up good times alongside gut punches, playing the Fool and the Hermit at once.” [The Holy Cross Tigers] “Grade A-,” PASTE

“It is their best yet: a break-up album of epic proportions that taps into the innately soulful side of Twisted Teens’ music while finding time for excursions into weirdo Southern mysticism, janky DIY beat-making and shimmery sound collages. It’s a late-breaking contender for album of the year…” [The Holy Cross Tigers] The Saturday Paper

“…one of America’s best new bands in 2026.” Matt Wilkinson, Apple Music 1

“This is one of the great garage rock groups of our time, folks.” Ezra Furman, BBC 6 Music

“Twisted Teens are seasoned songwriters and performers who—even when moving at such a relentless pace—make their tunefully rowdy punk rock feel unusually effortless. The truth is that they’re just really fucking good at what they do; The Holy Cross Tigers, following the power pop anthems of Blame the Clown and country-punk twang of Florida Water Blues, completes the triptych with a landmark for any great rock ‘n’ roll band: a breakup album, with all the soul and heartache that typically comes with that sort of thing.” “Album of the Week,” TREBLE

“A playful, sometimes quite silly, combination of egg-punk hyperactivity, knowingly schlocky Americana posturing and wide-eyed, road-dazed rock ‘n’ roll songwriting, it’s simple, effective and occasionally more moving than you expect.” [The Holy Cross Tigers] Loud and Quiet

“The album feels like a full circle moment, as it widens the scope on the aching melancholy and vulnerability explored on Florida Water Blues, all while retaining all the appeal, charm and strength of their previous LPs.” [The Holy Cross Tigers] “Album of the Month,” Occult Magazine

“The duo of Caspian Hollywell and Ramon “RJ” Santos continue in their unique style of cracked-out folk-punk that incorporates splashes of country, garage rock, and more. Lo-fi production and odd sounds that pop up at random keep listeners on edge, while Santos’ pedal steel accentuates Hollywell’s jittery recordings.” [The Holy Cross Tigers] GLIDE

“…Their best record yet” [The Holy Cross Tigers]  9.5/10, Northern Transmissions

“Powered by Hollywell’s grizzled voice and comically surreal confessional lyrics, their Sub Pop debut is packed with endearingly ramshackle country-punk saloon-bar slammers like “Stalks” and “I Spend My Time Crying”. [The Holy Cross Tigers] UNCUT

“The guitars are ramshackle and immediate, the tempos mostly unrelenting, and Honeywell’s delivery plainspoken and refreshingly direct. But this belies the sneaky richness of Honeywell and RJ Santos’s songwriting and their songs’ sturdy structural designs.” [The Holy Cross Tigers] SLANT

“Santos’ slide guitar is the special sauce that gives these songs zip, but Hollywell’s swaggering charisma is undeniable, and his raw-throated delivery rips its way out of your speakers. The Holy Cross Tigers, and the two other albums from this year, are the kind of records that both hit you immediately and keep their hooks in you.”

The Gits’ Etcetera: A Thirteen-Song Collection of Rare and Previously Unreleased Singles and Cover Songs Is Available Today on All Streaming Providers Worldwide From Sub Pop

Today, November 2nd, 2026, Sub Pop and The Gits are releasing Etcetera, a thirteen-song collection of unreleased material by Mia Zapata and The Gits, available digitally today worldwide from Sub Pop. Originally released as a limited-edition (and now sold-out) LP for Record Store Day 2026, it features live tour recordings and rare solo performances by Mia Zapata, including covers of Bessie Smith, Iggy & The Stooges, and even James Taylor. Etcetera is the definitive Gits collector’s piece, hand-selected by the band from their personal vault and recorded when the band was at their finest.

One of the songs on the compilation, “Blue Spirit Blues,” was recorded that same year at the Canal Street Tavern in Dayton, Ohio, near the tiny college town of Yellow Springs where The Gits got their start. We’d first – and erroneously – believed the song was titled “Graveyard Blues,” but with the advent of the Internet we now know the proper title. Here, Mia was inspired by Bessie Smith’s 1929 recording of the piece.

Later this month, The Gits will be featured in MOPOP’s (the Museum of Pop And Culture) Puget Sound Stories: Seattle Music + Beyond Exhibit: From intimate jazz clubs to the riotous rise of grunge, Puget Sound Stories: Seattle Music + Beyond traces the artists, venues, and performances that gave the PNW its voice. Explore unearthed images, musical ephemera, stage-worn fashion, and more from the artists who forged the region’s musical identity. The exhibit opens Saturday, November 21st, 2026.

The Gits formed in 1986 at Antioch College in Ohio, and moved together to Seattle in 1989 as the world was taking notice of the burgeoning scene there. Although their raucous, blues-infused punk powered by Mia’s indelible vocals didn’t quite fit the mold being cast by their Pacific Northwest peers, The Gits quickly found a tight foothold and built a strong following.

Tragically, Mia Zapata was murdered in July of 1993, just having returned to Seattle from a successful West Coast tour, while The Gits were recording their second studio album. Enter: The Conquering Chicken, which was eventually released on C/Z Records the following year.

In addition to the unusual cover songs and Mia Zapata solo performances on Etcetera, this new album also includes live versions of recognizable Gits songs recorded when the band was at their finest.

One such song is “Daily Bread,” which was recorded during a 1993 tour at Klub Kommotion in San Francisco. Kommotion was a quasi-legal space for underground arts located in the Mission District, which had become a welcoming second home for The Gits. Mia never had an opportunity to record the vocals for “Daily Bread” in the studio, so we’re thrilled this live version exists.

During that same West Coast tour in early 1993, Mia performed a solo acoustic set in the back room of a small San Francisco bar called the Albion Room when the full band had a night off. It was a teeny room behind a heavy velvet curtain where Mia sang quieter renditions of several Gits songs and covers that were recorded at the soundboard.

One of those cover songs was James Taylor’s “I Was Only Telling a Lie” from his 1977 studio album, JT. Certain members of The Gits harbored a seething hatred for Mr. Taylor’s music and were perplexed when Mia began including the song in her solo performances. Mia responded, “It’s a good song, and I like it, so just give it a chance. Or else, fuck off!”

Four of the tracks on Etcetera were recorded live on-air in 1992 when the band played live at KDVS, the college radio station of UC Davis. These include “Bob (Cousin O.),” “Social Love,” “Slaughter of Bruce,” and “A.”

“Absynthe” was recorded live in Seattle at a club called the Off Ramp, which still exists although some people suggest it changed its name to something different some twenty years ago.

The Barfing Blues Band was a group that Mia, Matt, and Steve briefly had while at college, along with Chris Birdman McCullough on guitar and piano whilst Andy was off traveling in a faraway land with hobbits, elves, and Gandalf. They recorded “Tight Pants” at a live show in a dorm basement. The song is an early version of the Stooges’ song which evolved into “Shake Appeal,” and was included on Iggy & the Stooges’ Raw Power album of 1973.

The Gits’ entire discography – Enter: The Conquering Chicken, Frenching the Bully, Kings & Queens, Seafish Louisville, and Live at The X-Ray, as well as the aforementioned Etcetera – is available on all DSPs worldwide from Sub Pop. Also available are The Gits’ Frenching the Bully and The Gits’ Enter: The Conquering Chicken on CD and LP through Sub Pop Mega Mart in North America, MegaMart Europe in the EU/UK, The Gits website, and independent retailers worldwide.

Revisit Evelyn McDonnell’s interview with The Gits’ band members Andy Kessler and Matt Dresdner in The New York Times (see November 12th story “A New Set of Gits Releases Gives Mia Zapata Her Voice Back”). You can also read Tim Sommer’s extensive liner notes on The Gits reissues here.

PISS you made me / skin on linen Out Today

“The Vancouver punk band PISS embeds raw, political lyricism into exhilarating riot grrrl on their song ‘Time Loop at Hot Slit.’”
The New York Times

“’you made me / skin on linen’ stopped me in my tracks. It’s an assemblage of guttural yells, engrossing poetry, samples of feminist thinkers and activists, grueling bass, unyielding drums, and landmine guitars. In just over 30 minutes, the album articulates the evolution of personhood in a world that seems to welcome sexual violence, the societal norms that have allowed such violence to continue throughout history, and the oppositional viewpoints on how to move forward and prevent that injustice from continuing.”
“Band to Watch,” STEREOGUM
Today, Friday, Oct 30th, PISS has released their long-awaited debut album you made me / skin on linen on LP/CD/CS/DSPs worldwide from Sub Pop and in Canada from Paper Bag Records.  The Vancouver, B.C., four-piece combines punk, poetry, sound collage, performance art, and visual art, creating a multidisciplinary body of work that blurs the line between the personal and the political.

Following the previously released singles, “Rote Zora. ‘Resistance is Possible.’ Emma, no. 6, June 1984, pp. 39-41.”, “blocking a scene you can’t remember,”  “time loop at hot slit,” the band has shared; the final single, alongside their album release today, titled “i wanted to be a singer.” PISS’ frontperson, Tay Zantingh says: “‘i wanted to be a singer’ is a sludgy, jarring noise-rock song. Using plain language, the singer directly addresses the listener without literary devices or narrative techniques. It is an introduction to the album: this record is not entertainment but a necessity born from the impossibility of writing truth without addressing this trauma. It contrasts childhood dreams of performing with a painful reality, and forces listeners to confront that reality before they engage with the record.”

The album release comes as the band’s North American tour with Gilla Band comes to a close, featuring electrifying performances at Second Summer Festival and a SOLD OUT show with Gilla Band at Lee’s Palace in Toronto. They perform in Portland tonight, with shows in Vancouver tomorrow night at The Pearl, concluding this run with Gilla Band on Sunday, November 01 in Seattle, WA. An upcoming international run includes Iceland Airwaves, Pitchfork Paris, and a SOLD OUT London show at Moth Club. The band will return to play London’s Scala in February and recently confirmed Primavera and Best Kept Secret in the summer of 2027.

PISS recently played an indelible set at KEXP, performing 11 songs in sequential order from their forthcoming debut full-length. The session was hosted by Sonic Reducers’ Brian Foss; you can watch HERE. In other exciting news, PISS has graced the covers of EXCLAIM in Canada (read HERE), NME in the UK (read HERE), and yesterday’s “Band To Watch” feature on STEREOGUM (read HERE.)

PISS is Taylor Zantingh (vocals), Tyler Paterson (guitar), Gavin Moya (bass), and Garreth Roberts (drums). The Vancouver, B.C. band combines punk, poetry, sound collage, performance art, and visual art, creating a multidisciplinary body of work that blurs the line between personal and political. ‘you made me / skin on linen’, depicts a childhood shaped by structural, systemic, and intimate violence. Throughout the record, art-making motifs serve as metaphors for the myriad ways we carry the effects of this violence: each experience leaves an impression, gradually creating or deforming the self, much like a piece of clay moulded by every mark it receives. The record resists simple conclusions; rather than offering a single perspective, it examines violence as a ubiquitous facet of our culture. It asks questions—how does violence impact our development? Are our wounds inextricable parts of us? And if not, then where do our wounds end and we begin?—and allows the listener to devise their own answers.

The band recorded ’you made me / skin on linen’ in January 2025 with Colin Stewart at Hive Creative Labs. It is now available from Sub Pop and Bandcamp. LP orders from megamart.subpop.com in North America, Mega Mart Europe in the UK/EU, and your local record store will receive the album on Baby Pink vinyl, with a Baby Pink/Grey Blend available exclusively on the band’s Bandcamp page and at the band’s live show, while supplies last.

What people are saying about PISS you made me/skin on linen:

“Its so visceral, its so powerful…its jarring, its uncomfortable in many ways… it also feels really, really important.” “New Music Friday,” NPR Music

“Raw, refined and radical, you made me / skin on linen is a complex and challenging record, and one that shouldn’t be taken for granted. Art like this doesn’t come often, or without cost.” 9/10, EXCLAIM!

“Bathed in the intimacy of unrelenting emotion, PISS cuts to the bone with a blade of bass-laden dissonance and driving, hard-hitting rhythms. 10/10, The Line of Best Fit

“The most uncompromising art possible.” The Wire

“A blistering hurricane of hardcore-meets-artcore that genuinely defies categorisation” Shindig!

“Their shows are finely choreographed, emotionally intense and deeply immersive… The effect is jarring, unsettling and profoundly moving.”

“Their performance is moving, terrifying and haunting.” - (End of the Road live review) So Young
