Sub Pop and Select Indie Stores Encourage Learning with Prizes and a September Sale

To celebrate the start of the new school year, we are teaming up with some excellent indie music shops this September to offer you hearty discounts, and opportunities to win rare Sub Pop treats.

Select Sub Pop releases will be on sale at the below stores all month, and each store will be giving away a prize pack featuring a variety of rare and out-of-print Sub Pop items.

For extra-credit, if you go into any participating store and, using the tag #BeachHouseGLOW, tweet/instagram a picture of your favorite Sub Pop title from the sale display, you will get a shot at winning a way out-of-print, be-the-envy-of-all-your-friends Beach House – “Bloom” LP on glow in the dark vinyl! (There are only 250 copies on the planet. We didn’t do well at math, but we are pretty sure that some sort of “supply” and “demand” thing makes this record rare or something.)

The ten stores with the most pictures (remember, you must use the hashtag and tag your store!) will WIN the glow in the dark vinyl to be given away at their store. If your local record store wins then you up your chances of scoring this tasty platter!

Check in with the participating store nearest you for more info.

In preparation for this grand event, today we are offering up a streaming version of our free 2012 Sub Pop sampler, Terminal Sales Vol. 5: Mixed Nuts (see player above). This 16-track collection of new, rare, and, in some cases, previously released tracks, will be available, in CD form and in all of its elaborate and glorious packaging beauty, at a record store near you this weekend, while supplies last.

To find out just which record stores near you will be participating in RSD 2012, you can head over to and get a list of the local brick and mortars you’ll need to hit on Saturday for the rare and exclusive offers from your favorite bands.

While you’re doing your research, you may also want to refer back to our previous Record Store Day blog post which details the specific and impressive Record Store Day offerings from Sub Pop artists Beach House, Blitzen Trapper and Shabazz Palaces. Relatedly, Pitchfork highlighted the Beach House and Shabazz Palaces RSD releases in their Top Record Store Day Releases coverage, read more of their list here.
