Beach House is sharing new details for Become, the band’s previously announced new five-song EP.
Become was initially released as a Record Store Day exclusive on crystal clear vinyl on Saturday, April 22nd. The EP will now see a wider release on black vinyl/CD/CS on Friday, May 19th, and can be preordered worldwide from Sub Pop, with the exceptions of Europe through Bella Union and Australia/New Zealand from Mistletone.
Become will also be available to stream on all DSPs beginning Friday, April 28th at midnight (local).
Become features the songs “Holiday House,” “American Daughter,” “Devil’s Pool,” “Black Magic,” and the title track, and was produced by Beach House, with mixing by Alan Moulder (track 1), Trevor Spencer (tracks 2, 3, 5), and Caesar Edmunds (track 4), and mastering by Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound.
“The Become EP is a collection of 5 songs from the Once Twice Melody sessions. We didn’t think they fit in the world of OTM, but later realized they all fit in a little world of their own. To us, they are all kind of scuzzy and spacious, and live in the spirit realm. It’s not really where we are currently going, but it’s definitely somewhere we have been. Once Twice Melody also peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Albums Sales Chart, the band’s first-ever record to do so. The album also spent six weeks at #1 on the NACC 200 College Charts. Beach House also performed Once Twice Melody standout “Superstar” on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Earlier this month, Beach House’s “Space Song,” from their 2015 album Depression Cherry, was certified as a Double Platinum digital single. Meanwhile, “Myth” from 2012’s Bloom also saw certification as a Gold digital single.
Sub Pop is thrilled to welcome Australia’s Girl and Girl to our self-proclaimed iconic and undoubtedly recognizable label roster. This exciting, four-piece garage rock outfit features frontperson Kai James and his Aunty Liss on drums, with longtime friends Jayden Williams on guitar and Fraser Bell on bass.
To celebrate this budding union, the group has shared an official video for their new single, “All I See.”
The band’s frontperson, Kai James, says about the single and video: “Lyrics came last for ‘All I See,’ about 3 years after the track, and when I finally sat down and wrote them, I was pretty anxious about whether I had them right or not. A new Mylie Cyrus track played on the radio that afternoon, she too, was singing about houses burning down, and I took that as confirmation. So I thanked Mylie Cyrus and her great new track ‘Flowers’ and never looked back.”
Girl and Girl are currently working on new music for their Sub Pop debut. The band has announced a series of tour dates for 2023, which includes performances at The Great Escape and London’s Wide Awake Festival and a support run with Partisan Records act Blondshell. Clean Weird Prone includes the original 15-track Inner World Peace tracklist, along with unreleased tracks, demos, and alternate versions of the album’s songs. Frankie Cosmos’s mastermind, Greta Kline, shares about this release:
“Maybe it’s ego, maybe it’s an obsession with archiving, maybe it’s just for fun. But I have always had a bit of a focus on preserving the first way the song went. It’s hard for me to let go of my demos. These are some of the many seeds of the album. I wanted to share a sampling (I have about 5 times as much material) because Inner World Peace was a drawn-out and unique album process. “Since forming the band, I have always had tours breaking up writing and arranging time…until 2020. This was also the first album since Zentropy that I wrote without any release plan or hopes to tour. I think that freeness can be felt in the album and the demos.
My demo-ing process is extremely stripped down, and until 2020 I recorded my vocals straight into my computer mic or my earbud mic (track 5, “hey whatsup” is from that era). I can still carry my whole recording setup (sans instruments) in a tote bag. When I think about these recordings, I can physically place myself in a lot of them. Beds, floors, sometimes desks or tables. The internal and personal moment with the core of the song before it gets shared with bandmates and producers and expanded into the butterfly. These are my cocoons!”

As previously announced, Frankie Cosmos has a string of outdoor headline shows that begin on May 4th, in Los Angeles, with additional dates in Big Sur and San Francisco. The band is also confirmed to play Kilby Block Party Festival in Salt Lake City, UT, on May 12th.

On Friday, June 2nd, Bully (aka Alicia Bognanno) will release Lucky For You, her kaleidoscopic new full-length on CD/LP/CS/DSPs worldwide from Sub Pop. The 10-track album combines punk grit, crunchy shoegaze bliss, and an explosive Britpop bop, all mixed in with the classic anthems Bully is known for.
“Hard to Love,” the official new video from Bully, was directed by and stars Bognanno, who had this to say about the song: “Growing up never fitting into society’s constructed gender stereotypes and expectations, I often felt as though different equals bad or wrong. I was confused about my place in the world, not fully identifying with any one particular gender or sexuality. I was ashamed, and I blamed myself. Though I’m still in the process of understanding and accepting my identity, I’m glad to be surrounded by people who love and accept me for who I am regardless of the clothes I wear and the labels others use to define me.”
“Hard to Love” follows the previously released tracks “Lose You (Feat. Soccer Mommy),” and the pulsating banger “Days Move Slow.” Of the latter track, The New York Times says, “‘Days Move Slow’…is a song about being caught in the muck of grief — she wrote it after the death of her beloved dog, Mezzi — but it also has a propulsive, bouncy energy that promises eventual forward motion. ‘There’s flowers on your grave that grow,’ Bognanno sings in her signature holler, battling her buzzing guitar.”
Bully has extended her North American tour dates for 2023 in support of Lucky For You with new headlining shows. Dates kick-off June 4th in Charlottesville, VA, with headline stops at NYC’s Racket, Chicago’s Thalia Hall, and a hometown show at Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl. These new shows will follow Bully’s previously announced headlining UK/EU tour (May 20th-28th) and her 13-date main support for the Pixies and Franz Ferdinand (June 8th-25th). On Friday, May 19th, Hannah Jadagu (pron. juh-dah-goo) will release Aperture, her first full-length effort on CD/LP/CS/DSPs worldwide from Sub Pop.
Today, you can watch the official video for a new offering, “Admit It,” an aching new single dedicated to Jadagu’s sister, whose boundless love and impeccable taste has been a constant for Jadagu ever since she was a kid. At home, the siblings were raised on mom’s Young Money mixtapes and the Black Eyed Peas (to whom she credits her love of vocoder), but it was in the sanctity of her sister’s car that Jadagu discovered indie artists who would go on to inspire her work.
Jadagu says, “‘Admit It’ is centered around being there for someone you typically lean on. It’s about the value of a certain strength and support that can come from family. I wanted that same idea to come across in the production of the song, which is inspired by the music I listened to during my childhood.”
Jadagu is also announcing a 19-date, headlining US tour for the fall of 2023 in support of Aperture, which begins Wednesday, September 6th in Philadelphia, PA at PhilaMOCA and ends Sunday, October 1st in Chicago, IL at Schubas. The tour will include stops in DC, Carrboro, Nashville, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, Seattle, Portland, Boise, Denver, and Lawrence.
Tickets for these shows go on sale Friday, April 21st at 10 am (local).
The tour will be preceded by Jadagu’s hometown release show at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right on Saturday, May 20th, and an appearance at Salt Lake City’s Mind The Gap Festival on Saturday, August 26th. A current list of dates is below.

Last month, Jadagu released “Warning Sign,” a standout from Aperture. New York Times called the single “a hushed, hazy song that maps interpersonal tensions onto musical contrasts: quiet and loud, sustained and rhythmic, dulcet and distorted… ‘Warning Sign’ could have been an easygoing R&B vamp, but Jadagu has other imperatives; the song coos with keyboard chords and airborne harmonies, then crashes or glitches. What she hears goes with what she feels: “I can’t stand to hear your voice when it’s oh so loud/Could you quiet down?”
Hannah Jadagu’s Aperture features 12 tracks, including “Lose,” “Say it Now,” “What You Did,” “Warning Sign,” and the aforementioned “Admit it,” was co-produced by Jadagu and Max Robert Baby at Greasy Studios Paris, mixed by Marcus Linon, and mastered by Dave Cooley at Elysian Mastering. Aperture follows the release of Jadagu’s acclaimed What Is Going On? digital-only EP, and stand-alone single “All My Time Is Wasted,” also available on Sub Pop.
