Today, Tuesday, September 29th, 2026, Father John Misty is releasing “The X-panded Universe,” a new single available now on all digital streaming services worldwide from Sub Pop.
“The X-panded Universe” was written and composed by Josh Tillman, arranged by Drew Erickson, and co-produced by Erickson and Tillman. “The Payoff” was also mixed and engineered by Michael Harris at Fivestar Studios in Topanga, CA, and mastered by Adam Ayan Mastering.
“The X-panded Universe” is the third Father John Misty single of 2026, following “The Payoff,” released in May, and “The Old Law,” released in January. The latter track was previously known to Father John Misty fans as “God’s Trash” and debuted as part of the live set in the fall of 2024. All three singles follow the release of Mahashmashana, Father John Misty’s acclaimed sixth long player in twelve years, released in November 2024.
Father John Misty is announcing his first solo tour since 2013, which begins Wednesday, December 9th in Boulder, CO at Boulder Theatre and ends with a two-night stand on Friday, December 18th and Saturday, December 19th at Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA at Sunset Cultural Center for the 4th Annual Big Sur Park School Benefit shows. These shows will feature support from very special guest Damien Jurado. Preceding these shows is Father John Misty’s headlining solo performance on Tuesday, October 6th in Los Angeles at The Fonda Theatre.

Recently, Rolling Stone caught Father John Misty’s surprise 2026 Newport Folk Fest performance, and offered this: “Given his addition as a last-minute substitution for Tedeschi Trucks Band following their health-related cancellation, it came as some surprise (and a thrilling one at that) that Father John Misty chose this relatively high-profile setting to test out a notable chunk of new, unreleased material. There were songs about doomsday-prepper dystopia, songs about fathers who may in fact be secret CIA spies (that one’s called “Josh Tillman, His Father, and the Scottsdale Experience”), and politically charged songs portraying right-wing xenophobia (sample lyric: “We need walls that never end/An ocean sideways between us and them”). He was accompanied for some of the set by David Rawlings, best known as Gillian Welch’s longtime sideman; mostly, though, the bearded California satirist switched between piano and guitar during his entirely acoustic, stripped-down set. It was a bold bet that paid off thanks to the new songs themselves.”
Today, noisy, genre-bending band PISS has shared an official video for “blocking a scene you can’t remember,” one of the standout tracks from their debut effort, you made me / skin on linen, which will be available on October 30th on LP/CD/CS/DSPs worldwide from Sub Pop and in Canada from Paper Bag Records. “blocking a scene you can’t remember” is a devastating, climactic slow-core song about sexual abuse and its lasting impacts. The lyrics take the form of a monologue read by a girl in her room, rehearsing a long-overdue confrontation with a man from her past. On Friday, November 20th, Sub Pop will release Sebadoh’s Harmacy(30th Anniversary Expanded Edition) worldwide on 2xLP, 2xCD, and digitally through all streaming providers. This thoughtfully expanded update finally makes the group’s seminal out-of-print 1996 indie-rock album available again on physical formats, adding 16 bonus tracks, including alternate versions, rare B-sides, BBC sessions, and live material from the Harmacy era.
JJ Golden at Golden Mastering has also retouched and remastered this 30th anniversary expanded edition. You can now listen to today’s offering, an alternate version of “Beauty of the Ride.”

Sebadoh formed in 1986 in Northampton, Massachusetts, with Eric Gaffney and Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr., The Folk Implosion), adding multi-instrumentalist Jason Loewenstein in 1989, and Bob Fay in 1994. By 1994, the band had released five records and more or less changed the pockmarked face of indie rock. Their albums were mostly home recordings, decried for their lack of sharp production, but embraced by fans of Barlow’s intimate songwriting style, which owed as much to Joni Mitchell as Bob Mould.
Harmacy is their breakout sixth album, and was originally released in August 1996 to immense critical and popular acclaim. It found Sebadoh as conflicted as ever: torn between screaming punk and gentle crooning, replete with highly personal songs guaranteed to bring down even the most super-charged midnight ravers. Released in the wake of The Folk Implosion’s Top 40 hit “Natural One,” Harmacy became Sebadoh’s first charting album in the US. Their US tour following its release was by far their most successful to date, selling out almost everywhere, and complete with screaming, autograph-demanding young fans chanting the words to Harmacy’s deceptively upbeat single “Ocean”.
Interview Magazine said of the album, “Harmacy is nothing short of a masterpiece.” The New Yorker called it a collection of “perfectly crafted, honest (read: ambiguous and emotionally twisted), impassioned songs about love and hate.” Harmacy was also hailed as one of the best albums of 1996 by the likes of Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and NME.

French heavy rock band SLIFT is releasing “Live From The Street,” a new performance video filmed in the midst of this summer’s heat wave on the streets of the band’s hometown of Toulouse, France. It features incredible performances of the songs “The Day of Execution” and “Secret Mirror” from the band’s acclaimed new album, Fantasia, which is available now worldwide from Sub Pop. The video was directed by the band’s visual artist, Guthio.
SLIFT’s headline tour in support of Fantasia resumes Tuesday, October 6th in Boston at The Sinclair, and runs through Saturday, February 6th, 2027 in Madrid, ES at Wolf. The tour includes extensive dates in North America, the UK, and the EU between now and early 2027.

Iron & Wine Hen’s Teeth (Deluxe Edition), is now digitally available worldwide on all streaming platforms from Sub Pop. This expanded edition features six new recordings in total: four previously unreleased songs along with acoustic versions of two fan favorites from Hen’s Teeth (see full track list below).
The four unreleased songs come from sessions done in Los Angeles during the recording of sibling records Light Verse and Hen’s Teeth. “California Sober,” available today, was the last song written and recorded during the sessions, and its playful nature, hinted at in the title, is the perfect way to wind down summer while easing into fall.
Hen’s Teeth was released in February of this year and featured two duets with the multi-Grammy-winning band, I’m With Her, along with a cast of musicians including Griffin Goldsmith, Sebastian Steinberg, David Garza, Beth Goodfellow, Paul Cartwright, Tyler Chester, and Kyle Crane.
Iron & Wine will begin their North American headline tour on October 8th in Denver, CO, with shows in Salt Lake City, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Tucson, Dallas, and Memphis.
