Today, The Bug Club shares the humorously apathetic new single “A Good Day For Dying,” available now on all streaming services from Sub Pop.
The track is from Every Single Muscle, which is The Bug Club’s punkiest offering yet. It recalls both the short, sharp snaps of their very first singles and the grunt of recent releases. So packed is the album with wall-to-wall riffs and lyrical hooks rammed into tight confines that Sam actually asks permission to squeeze in a solo during “A Good Day for Dying.” He’s given two seconds.
With regard to the lyricism, while Very Human Features did an excellent job of pointing at everyday things and highlighting their absurdity, on Every Single Muscle, The Bug Club looks more closely at themselves. Not so much in an introspective way, though. More in a way an alien might probe a captive specimen on an intergalactic gurney. Horror movies get their “body” subgenre; now, garage rock albums get theirs, too. Self-interested in an entirely new sense of the term, the human form and condition is prodded and inspected from every angle throughout the course of the album. “A Good Day For Dying” is another excellent example of this.

Today is May 1st, and Hoopla, the sensational new long-player from Weird Nightmare (the new project from METZ frontman, Alex Edkins), is available now on CD/LP/DSPs worldwide from Sub Pop and in Canada from Dine Alone. The 10-track album features the previously released singles “Where I Belong”, “Pay No Mind,”“Forever Elsewhere,” and the Alternative Specialty radio hit,“Might See You There.” The album was co-produced by Edkins and Spoon’s Jim Eno at Seth Manchester’s Machines With Magnets in Providence, RI. Hoopla was crafted with just the right amount of punk rock fuzz and crunch. The immediate, crisp, unfussy recording brings you right into the studio with Edkins and his band.
Earlier this week, the band concluded a short US tour with shows in Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, and Seattle. On Friday, August 14th, Sub Pop Records will be unbearably full of themselves to release YouSay I Romanticize, the crucial new album from Sweeping Promises. Recorded over an 18-month period, You Say I Romanticize is a tribute to the chaos of creation and collaboration under shifting circumstances. Guitarist Caufield Schnug and bassist/vocalist Lira Mondal found and tested themselves in their combination tour house and recording studio in Kansas, annually working on dozens of albums from other bands, hosting tour stops, planning shows, and the like. After an immersive process of tracking and whittling down YSIR demos and carving out an idiosyncratic chamber-recording method for the album’s intentional wall-of-sound, the duo brought in touring drummer Spenser Gralla to play the songs as the band would on stage.
The album’s frenzied execution, akin to the group’s renowned live show, prevails most of all in Mondal’s exhilarating vocals. Whereas previously, you might have heard a growl here and there on certain Sweeping Promises tracks, the band’s formidable singer shouts, roars, hits all sorts of tricky notes, and shreds her throat all over the record. Today, you can watch Telehealth’s official video for “Yassify Me,” a new song that dresses up carnage with a ring light and a wellness routine, simultaneously weaponizing therapy-speak and new wave. It is the final pre-release track from Green World Image, out tomorrow, Friday, May 15th worldwide on Sub Pop.
The “Yassify Me” visual was directed by band member Kendra Cox and stars Seattle-based artist Becky Harbine in an improvisational performance.
Cox says of the video, “What you see is pretty much what you get here. ‘Yassify Me’ is the result of a zero-dollar budget, a dream, and my aunt Becky absolutely committing to the bit. Watching her improvised movements against the backdrop of rapid development somehow captured the exact juxtaposed spirit of the song better than anything we could’ve planned. Go Mariners!”

The Head And The Heart announce the release of the live version of their RIAA Certified Platinum debut album, The Head and The Heart (Live at Neumos). The live album features 12 of their original songs, plus a cover of Jimmie Rodgers “T Is For Texas (Blue Yodel No. 1)”, performed live at Neumos on January 14, 2011, a local venue where the band played some of their first-ever shows in Seattle. Off the album is the single “Rivers And Roads (Live at Neumos)” which is out now - listen here.
The Head And The Heart will further revisit the album on their 15th Anniversary Tour in support of their 15th Anniversary Deluxe album which is out now - listen here. Upcoming dates include two sold-out shows at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO, and more this summer.
The Head And The Heart was born of Seattle’s music scene in 2009, formed by a group of musicians who met at open mic night and then began busking and playing small venues, gradually building a devoted following through their communal energy and layered vocal harmonies. Their self-titled debut album, The Head and the Heart (2011), initially gained traction as a self-release before the band was signed by Sub Pop, the influential indie rock label that helped bring their music to a wider audience. The album’s raw, intimate sound—blending traditional folk with modern indie sensibilities—played a key role in the early 2010s folk revival and left a lasting imprint on emerging artists.
