Sub Pop Records Snags Seattle’s Poor Moon

Poor Moon is Christian Wargo (Fleet Foxes, Crystal Skulls) Casey Wescott (Fleet Foxes, Crystal Skulls) and brothers Ian and Peter Murray (The Christmas Cards). The band, named for frontman and primary songwriter Christian Wargo’s favorite Canned Heat song, began four years ago as a long-distance project with demos being created and sent back and forth while Wargo and Wescott were touring in support of the Fleet Foxes 2008 self-titled debut and Ian and Peter living in the Bay area. Their first shows were at intimate Seattle house parties where they used playful throwaway monikers like Rabbit Kingdom and Cookie Mask. It wasn’t until the band opened up for Deakin at Seattle’s Neumos (under the name Peppermint Majesty) that things began to really take form. Recording began and the four longtime friends became a band and Sub Pop didn’t hesitate to pursue them with unabashed enthusiasm. And it worked.

Illusion was recorded in a variety of bedrooms, practice spaces, the Murray residence, as well as AVAST! and Fastback studios in Seattle, Washington with the help of engineer Jared Hankins with guest performances by many a musician friend.

Seriously, you guys are the best. So pick up a Fleet Foxes 12", a Blitzen Trapper 7", and a Lower Dens 7" by clicking on the respective hyperlink. But do it quickly, there’s only a few of each left.

Jiminy Fallon! Both Fleet Foxes and The Head and the Heart will be on the TV this week!

In what even we (humble, modest simpletons that we are) recognize as a new personal best, both The Head and the Heart and Fleet Foxes will be appearing on the electronic babysitting machine this week! And, both of these appearances will be taking place on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon program of very high standards and taste.

Like so:

On Wednesday, May 18th, The Head and the Heart will perform “Lost in My Mind” from their recently released and also self-titled and also debut album The Head and the Heart!

And then, on Friday, May 20th, Fleet Foxes will perform the song “Sim Sala Bim” from their even more recently released though neither self-titled nor debut (it’s their second) album Helplessness Blues!

It’s just this kind of audacious media exposure that has afforded us the mid-level renown we’re forever prattling on about, and we very much hope that you will tune in.

Plus! If you are in NY and would like to attend either or both of these sure-to-be-historic performances on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show, here is how you can enter to have a chance to do that very thing…
