We have a trio of really awesome new releases available today. CocoRosie Grey Oceans , Male Bonding Nothing Hurts and the ITunes release of Foals Total Life Forever.

Grey Oceans is CocoRosie’s fourth album and debut for Sub Pop. It’s a beautiful, enchanting record with incredible arrangements. Try the lead single Lemonade here , and check out The Tripwire’s post here. The CD and LP have different artwork and you can grab them over here. Here are three trailers featuring music from Grey Oceans

Smokey Taboo
Trinity’s Crying
The Moon Asked The Crow

Nothing Hurts , the debut album by London’s Male Bonding, is also out today. We fell for their high-energy-hook-laden numbers a little over a year ago and we are so excited to finally be putting their record out. Drowned in Sound gave the record a 9/10 NME an 8/10 and Pitchfork gave a Best New Track nod to Year’s Not Long and did a great little Rising Piece. Try Year’s Not Long here and Franklin here. Also, check out this cool session they did for Radio 1: Year’s Not Long. You can pick up Nothing Hurts here.

To complete the trio, we have the US Itunes release of Foals Total Life Forever. Following on from their 2008 debut Antidotes, Foals have returned with a stunning second record. It’s a real progression from the last one – the tempos are a little slower, often starting sparsely and building to intense crescendos, nowhere more so than on Spanish Sahara. Elsewhere, Two Trees is a subtle delicate track and This Orient and Miami are big pop gems. You can check out 2 tracks on the release page for Total Life Forever here and buy the record on Itunes here. The CD and double LP versions will be available on June 15th. Here are a selection of new Foals videos currently enhancing the internet:

Spanish Sahara
This Orient
This Orient Live on BBC Radio 1
Spanish Sahara Live on French TV

Finally, we have a new 15 track FREE Sampler up on Amazon starting today: Digital Bang. If you are in the US, you can go ahead and grab it here

If you are outside the US, you can listen on the Soundcloud here.

Starting today and running through their May 11th record release date, we are streaming the entire CocoRosie record, Grey Oceans, (their first with Sub Pop) over on those handy embeddable players that SoundCloud offers up, so you can go ahead and get to listening to Grey Oceans now, if you are so inclined. And actually, while you are listening to Grey Oceans and possibly considering pre-ordering the record, you might want to also consider their new single just posted on iTunes for “Lemonade / Surfer Girl” which is available for purchase now.

In one more piece of CocoRosie news for you to consider, the band just sent us their third video installment (naturally following their 1st and 2nd video teasers that you may have, hopefully, seen over the past few weeks) which again features a song off Grey Oceans, this time for “The Man Asked The Crow”. You can see that video clip here. If you’ve been liking these short video clips, be sure and look for CocoRosie’s full length video to appear online in late May, you won’t be disappointed.

More information on CocoRosie and Grey Oceans can be found on their subpop.com artist page and just to make sure that you don’t miss their list of tour dates we’ve included them below for you as well. Enjoy!

A Form of Paying Attention April 2010

6746

April 17th is, for the third time ever, what we in the biz like to call Record Store Day. Everyone’s all like “oooh it’s like Christmas for record nerds!” and “record store day is my favorite new day of the year!” but the real truth is that Record Store Day just means we can sell you more records, AND, record stores will continue to exist! (Win/win) This year we are releasing limited edition records (the number in parentheses = the total run) by Beach House (2750), The Album Leaf (2000), Happy Birthday (1750), Dum Dum Girls/Male Bonding (2250), Soundgarden (5475), and CocoRosie (1250) as well as a CD (9200) of some of the live performances from our big 20th Anniversary blowout from 2008. You can read more about our RSD offerings and in-stores here and more about RSD in general here.

April 27th is the release date for the highly anticipated Avi Buffalo record called, somewhat mysteriously, Avi Buffalo. If you pre-order Avi Buffalo by April 27th, you will, for free, receive a totally limited CDR featuring four non-album tracks! So don’t delay, after April 27th, they are gone. Our mom-n-pop direct sales guy Dean Whitmore has a fantastic little musical outfit called Unnatural Helpers, and they too are releasing an album on the 27th. Cracked Love and Other Drugs is available from Hardly Art. Get it!

Hey, also, speaking of our anniversary, it was just our anniversary again! This year we turned 22. It’s cool…we’re thinking about getting our own place so we can smoke our dope in private, as well as what we’re going to do with the rest of our lives. And speaking of the rest of our lives, you are currently reading the very last edition of A Form of Paying Attention. You goddamned kids have no attention spans anymore so from May 1 on you will find news bits in place of this wordy, dumb column. It was a good run but it’s time to put ‘er down.

For the first time ever we have a three-way tie for the winners of March’s new releases. Our friends at Yours Truly do awesome video stuff like this, but they had a hard time picking a winner for me. I finally got them to say “the guy who said the Smiths,” but that’s actually two guys, so both Simon Horton and Mike Waalkes are winners of the new Ruby Suns, Golden Triangle, Happy Birthday, and Dum Dum Girls records. Also, I had to pick Bob Ham as a winner as well because I’ve been obsessing about Henry Rollins lately. (Henry, call me!) Congratulations, everyone. To win April’s new releases, including a complete pack of all of our RSD releases, please leave my column an obit in the comments section. See ya!

Sub Pop Signs CocoRosie!

6420

Though it might strain the limits of imagination to even consider the possibility of Sub Pop’s early 2010 release schedule getting any busier or better, we are exceedingly pleased and proud to announce that we’ll be releasing the new CocoRosie album Grey Oceans on May 11th!

For those of you not already well-acquainted with the band, CocoRosie are two American-born sisters, Sierra and Bianca, who started making music together in Paris in 2003. Their first album, La Maison de Mon Rêve, was released in 2004 and their second album, Noah’s Ark, followed in 2005. Their third and most recent album, The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn, came out in 2007. All three of these albums were released worldwide on Touch and Go Records and earned positive critical acclaim both overseas and at home.

The nomadic duo (currently and temporarily residing in New Mexico) spent much of 2008 writing and recording in Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Berlin, New York, and Paris, finding amazing and diverse musicians to collaborate along the way. The result is their 11-song Sub Pop debut, Grey Oceans, due out May 11th, 2010.

Grey Oceans:
Trinity’s Crying
Smokey Taboo
Hopscotch
Undertaker
Grey Oceans
R.I.P. Burn Face
The Moon Asked the Crow
Lemonade
Gallows
Fairy Paradise
