Calexico and Iron & Wine are teaming up with Andrew Bird for The Great Summer Stroll tour this June. The coast to coast co-headline tour kicks off in Iron & Wine’s home state of North Carolina and includes stops at Red Rocks Amphitheatre with Neko Case, in Andrew’s home state of Illinois at the Ravinia Festival, and culminates at The Hollywood Bowl where Mandolin Orange joins the evening’s proceedings. JOSEPH will open dates on the first half of the tour.

Crossing paths at numerous festivals, sharing touring personnel, and being fans of each other’s work, a long-standing friendship has existed between Andrew Bird, Calexico and Iron & Wine over the years. The three acts first shared a bill in Boston last fall where the idea of a co-headline tour arose. As the year came to a close and with the lines of communication fresh, The Great Summer Stroll tour fell into place.
All three artists have earned praise and critical acclaim for their recent records. Calexico and Iron & Wine’s collaborative record, Years to Burn [Sub Pop] received two nominations at the 2020 Grammy Awards, the first for Best American Roots Performance and the second for Best Americana Album. Andrew Bird’s latest release, My Finest Work Yet [Loma Vista], received a nomination for Best Folk Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

Since releasing Years to Burn, Calexico and Iron & Wine’s first
full–length album together, earlier this year, the band have been bringing
their stunning live show to fans throughout Europe, the UK, and North America.
Today, the power group has announced new tour dates in 2020, kicking off
January 29th with two nights at Chicago’s Thalia Hall, DC’s The Anthem, NY’s
Webster Hall, Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium and more. In addition to
performing songs from the new album including “Father Mountain” and “Midnight Sun”, the group also performs
tracks off the critically acclaimed 2005 In
the Reins EP including “He Lays in the Reins”, as
well as songs from their respective catalogues. Full list of dates below.
The band recently made a stop at NPR where they did a Tiny Desk
performance which you can watch HERE. Of the performance, NPR noted, “This set perfectly captures the easy patience of their
interplay, as Burns, Convertino, Beam and a few of their most trusted

group performed “Father Mountain” and “Midnight Sun” off their critically acclaimed full-length album Years to Burn, as well as

Today, Calexico and Iron & Wine share the gorgeous second single from their upcoming album, Years to Burn, entitled “Midnight Sun.” In “Midnight Sun,” Calexico’s Joey Burns and Sam Beam of Iron & Wine trade haunted-sounding verses over shimmering steel until the song devolves into a corrosive electric lead from Burns, like a dying siren. The video makes use of over 100 paintings Beam did for the creation of the new album’s cover. Working with animator Jonny Sanders, the video brings to life in a spirited and fun way, the many images of Burns, Beam and Calexico drummer John Convertino. Years to Burn is their first full–length album together and will be available June 14th via City Slang in the UK/Europe and Sub Pop in the rest of the world. Of the track, Joey Burns says “Sam sent some demos the week before we met to record the album. Based on the feel of those demos I wrote the song “Midnight Sun” the day I got to Nashville. I arrived at our rental house the day before everyone else and was happy to find a piano, old pump organ and guitar to do some writing. I was up late and came up with a tune that would bridge both bands’ worlds. I started with a drone in F# and was curious as to where it would take me.”
