What people have said about There’s Nothing Wrong With Love:

“Built To Spill’s Doug Martsch put Boise, Idaho, on the musical map with sprawling guitars, nasally vocals and heartfelt lyrics. Before the group fleshed out their sound with the guitar bits, BTS won over listeners with these straightforward, poignant songs. It’s an intimate glimpse inside one of indie rock’s great songwriters before he found himself.” 90 Best Albums of the 90’s” - PASTE

“True or false: Doug Martsch is the Peter Frampton of 1990s indie? Sure, he might not have the hair, the tight pants, or the voice box, but it’s difficult to think of another soul more worthy of resident guitar god; maybe J Mascis, but he never brought the pop side like King Framp. That’s the side most in evidence on There’s Nothing Wrong With Love, before Martsch started bringing the sprawl in spades. Humble, wry song-tales about heads-up-seven-up, Albertson’s stir-fry, and Bowie-hating stepdads abound, while earnest tracks like “Twin Falls” and “Big Dipper” set the pace for the entire Northwestern indie-pop scene.” Top 100 Albums of the 1990’s” - Pitchfork

“…Their second full-length and first genuinely great record…There’s Nothing Wrong With Love is the sound of scrappy mountain manchildren toying with their powers, pushing the limits of their form, setting the table for future tours de force.” STEREOGUM

“The second album by Boise, Idaho’s Built to Spill was the cuddliest little guitar epic of the decade. Just as the luster was wearing off the grunge gold rush, singer guitarist Doug Martsch challenged slacker cynicism with basement-band symphonies that turned his own private Idaho into indie rock’s last unknown territory.” “Greatest Albums of the 90’s” - SPIN

“…Love is an absolute classic from the decade, setting the pace for the band in the way their debut just barely missed. Youthful stories combine with sweet melodies and sweeping guitars from Martsch. Really though, it’s the story of all our suburban lives. There’s something comforting in the record’s ability to be relatable on such a universal level…Listen and try it yourself, because not many records are capable of this.” “Dusting ‘Em Off” - Consequence of Sound

Clipping Shares Official Video For New Song “Run It”

Today, September 12th, Clipping shares the official video for the new song “Run It,” directed by Lawrence Klein. The fast-paced visual, which stars the group (Daveed Diggs, Jonathan Snipes, William Hutson) as a jet-setting international criminal export organization, was shot across three continents and six countries (US, Germany, South Korea, Thailand, India, and the Czech Republic). “Run It” was written and produced by Clipping, mixed by Steve Kaplan, and mastered by Levi Seitz at Blackbelt Mastering.

“Run It” is from Clipping’s forthcoming new album, a long-in-the-works Hip-Hop and Cyberpunk project, due worldwide from Sub Pop in 2025. This is also the first new material since the release of the group’s acclaimed horrorcore series Visions of Bodies Being Burned (2020) and There Existed An Addiction To Blood (2019), also available from Sub Pop.

Clipping will appear at Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival on Saturday, March 29th, 2025. Tickets for the fest are on sale now—additional tour dates to be announced soon.

Frankie Cosmos and Good Morning Cover “Take a Picture” From The Forthcoming Release Like Someone I Know: A Celebration Of Margo Guryan

Today, September 11th, Sub Pop recording artist Frankie Cosmos has teamed up with Australian indie rock outfit Good Morning to release a version of Margo Guryan’s classic song, “Take a Picture.” This cover is featured on the 12-song compilation Like Someone I Know: A Celebration Of Margo Guryan, which will be released worldwide on November 8th. A portion of proceeds from this album will be donated to a nonprofit that provides and advocates for affordable reproductive health services.

Greta Kline of Frankie Cosmos shares: “I first heard Margo Guryan on a playlist by Everyday Oil (yes, a playlist by a face oil) a few days before she passed away. I ended up getting into ‘Take A Picture’ and ‘27 Demos’ during the late fall of 2021 while we were mixing “Inner World Peace.’ I specifically remember Alex driving us through Brooklyn on a rainy November evening to Nate and Katie’s house (where they were finishing mixing), and we were talking about how great ‘Take A Picture’ sounded. Maybe not a specific mixing reference, but it was definitely in the air while we were working.

“I remember feeling like I was the last person to learn about Margo Guryan. I’d like to think that every time someone uncovers Margo Guryan, they start to piece together how many of their friends already know and love her songs. Hopefully, more people will learn about her music and listen to her records, and I’m happy to be part of that with this compilation!”

Frankie Cosmos is currently working on a follow-up to their 2022 release, Inner World Peace. The band is confirmed to perform five SOLD OUT shows, September 14th-19th at Webster Hall, opening for their fellow compilation-mate Clairo in NYC. Frankie Cosmos will then embark on a 17-date run, with Cavetown through the northeast, midwest, and south, ending on November 14th at the Paramount in Huntington, NY. The Hot New 7” Holiday Single… “John Waters Covers ‘The Singing Dogs’ “Jingle Bells’” b/w “It’s a Punk Rock Christmas”

Sub Pop is proud to present John Waters Covers ‘The Singing Dogs’ “Jingle Bells’” b/w “It’s a Punk Rock Christmas,” a new 7” single available ahead of “A John Waters Christmas,” his annual holiday tour. The single will be released worldwide on November 8th through, you guessed it, Sub Pop.

The A-side single features a parody version of The Singing Dogs’ “Jingle Bells’,” which takes the Christmas classic on a howling turn that should delight (and possibly dismay) dog owners everywhere. Meanwhile, the B-side, “It’s a Punk Rock Christmas,” is a raunchy spoken word yarn about the lack of the punk rock spirit during the anxiety-provoking season.

The new single was produced by Grammy-winner Ian Brennan (Tinariwen, The Good Ones [Rwanda], poet Raymond Antrobus, Parchman Prison Prayer) who produced all of Waters’ previous three singles. Brennan states, “In producing John’s annual Christmas tour for over twenty years, it seemed almost negligent that he didn’t have a Christmas record. Everyone from U2 to Justin Bieber to William Shatner to Bob Dylan does, and John’s wit couldn’t be a more fitting cheer for the annual holiday music canon.”

The Pope of Trash has also announced his annual “A John Waters Christmas” comedy tour, which begins Sunday, December 1st, in Santa Cruz, CA, at Rio Theatre and ends Thursday, December 19th, in Baltimore, MD, at Baltimore SoundStage. Tickets for these shows are on sale now.

“A John Waters Christmas” 2024 Tour Dates
Sun. Dec. 01 - Santa Cruz, CA - Rio Theatre
Mon. Dec. 02 - San Francisco, CA - The Great American Music Hall
Tue. Dec. 03 - Seattle, WA - The Neptune Theatre
Wed. Dec. 04 - Seattle, WA - The Neptune Theatre
Thu. Dec. 05 - Portland, OR - Aladdin Theatre
Fri. Dec. 06 - Portland, OR - Aladdin Theatre
Sat. Dec. 07 - North Hollywood, CA - El Portal Theatre
Sun. Dec. 08 - San Diego, CA - Lou Lou’s Jungle Room
Sat. Dec. 14 - Cincinnati, OH - Live at the Ludlow Garage
Sun. Dec. 15 - New York, NY - City Winery
Tue. Dec. 17 - Philadelphia, PA - Union Transfer
Wed. Dec. 18 - Alexandria, VA - Birchmere Music Hall
Thu. Dec. 19 - Baltimore, MD - Baltimore Soundstage

“John Waters Covers ‘The Singing Dogs’ “Jingle Bells’” b/w “It’s a Punk Rock Christmas” is available to preorder on Clear with Red and Green Swirl vinyl from Sub Pop Mega Mart in North America, MM2 in the UK and Europe, and select independent retailers worldwide.

“John Waters Covers ‘The Singing Dogs’ “Jingle Bells’” b/w “It’s a Punk Rock Christmas” follows the 2022 release of “It’s In the Book” (which features Waters covering a stand-up routine recorded and made famous by midwestern-US comedian/actor/musician Johnny Standley in 1952), and his 2021 single, “Prayer to Pasolini” (his tribute to the legendarily controversial Italian film director Pier Paolo Pasolini). Both singles are also available from Sub Pop.
