And without further ado, and practically zero fanfare, here are the (mostly free!) SXSW parties with SUBPOP bands! I was thinking about writing the addresses and all that jazz, but I thought that since these were free shows it’d be okay for you to do a small amount of work and figure out the location on your own. Plus, teach a man a fish and all that, you know? Anyway, enough with my constant ramblings…. HERE IS THEINFOYOUNEED! AND… AWAY…
See you in the pit, doodz.

Hey, Hey! My coworkers and I are heading to Austin, TX in two short weeks so that we can wine and dine our contacts and show off the talents of our lovable and extremely talented bands. On Thursday March 19th, we’ll be at the Radio Room (508 E. 6th St – formerly Bourbon Rocks, formerly Fat Tuesdays, formerly some place with novelty shots and lots of tits). Most of these bands will be playing additional parties and what-not—we’ll post those soon!
Alright, guys, fuck yeah! Two thousand nine is really picking up speed here at HQ and we’ve got some (dare I say) great stuff for you in the lovely month of March. On March 10 we will release the new HANDSOMEFURS record on CD & LP. If you order FACECONTROL before 3/10 we will include a CDR with 4 live album tracks recorded in Seattle. Buttons, stickers, blah blah blah, yes, you get that, too! Also, we’re doing a thing now that lets you stream the whole album once you purchase from subpop.com. That’s cool, right? March 10 is also the release date for the MARKSULTAN (the BBQ half of the King Khan & BBQ show) seven inch “Hold On” b/w “I Hear a New World”. The songs are great and so is the art/packaging. Get with it.
The OBITS record I BLAMEYOU comes out on March 24th and I couldn’t be more excited—this is my record of the year. (No other records need apply.) We’ll give you a lenticular (Google it) postcard designed by the band if you pre-order, plus butts and sticks, AND the ability to stream! All this and nothing more if you order before March 23! That same day is the day we release BUNNYGETSPAID by REDREDMEAT in deluxe form including a 7-song 2nd disc of alternate, demo and single versions of album tracks, plus b-sides, covers and a previously unreleased song from the same era (“St. Anthony’s Jawbone”), all put together by the band. GET IT!
Tuesday, March 10th marks our second release of 2009. This brings you, esteemed email subscriber person, yet another opportunity to own bonus material through an altogether unsubtle sales trick we call “the pre-order incentive”. When (and less likely if) you pre-order Handsome Furs’ second album, FACECONTROL, on CD or LP (as usual, the vinyl comes with a digital download code), you will receive a limited CDR featuring four album tracks performed live at an April, 2008 show in Seattle. And because we’re so sweet on you (and your money), we’re going to throw in a couple stickers and a button as well. Can’t wait until March 10thto hear FACECONTROL? With your pre-order, you’ll have access to a full album stream! How’s that for a bullet-proof sales pitch?
From the perspective of any Sub Pop Records employee, every Sub Pop release date is a day worth taking off to celebrate the many joys of Somewhat Independent Record Label Rock Music. June 17th is certainly no exception, for this day brings us Wolf Parade’s second full-length release. Does that make for a day worth celebrating? You bet, presumed reader! At Mount Zoomer will be available on CD and fidelity-intensified phonographic LP (complete with a digital download code) for all you crazy fidelity freaks. As if the promise of a life-altering/enhancing record album weren’t enough, if you pre-order At Mount Zoomer by June 17th, we’ll include, at no additional cost to you, a poster featuring a painting of Wolf Parade as depicted by Spencer’s sister, Zoë Krug Sather. Oh! And just like all of our online customers, you’ll receive stickers and button or two. Good news is fun to spread.
The mighty Sub Pop is having a HUGE showcase at 2008’s SXSW in Austin this year. How huge is it? Two stages huge!
Our showcase will be on Friday March 14th at Bourbon Rocks and Bourbon Rocks Patio which are both connected, but not really connected. Bourbon Rocks is located at 508 E. 6th St. (6th and Neches) and doors are at 7:15pm.
