Last night, Feb. 2, at New York City’s Webster Hall, the folks behind the PLUG Independent Music Awards hosted their 2006 awards presentation shindig. Our own Chad VanGaalen performed, no doubt thoroughly wowing all in attendance (proof of said wowing here).
AND! AND! While, not all of the artists on the label (and here, I mean Sub Pop) who were nominated actually won awards, Sleater-Kinney did, with their epic, critically-lauded album The Woods, take home the award for “Punk Album of the Year”!
As well, and unexpectedly enough, we here at Sub Pop Records won in the Record Label of the Year category. There was some exceedingly stiff competition and we remain convinced that there must have been some sort of monkey business or vote counting mishap for us to have won. However! We’ll take it! And, we are very grateful to the aforementioned PLUG Independent Music Awards and any/all of you who may have (even accidentally) voted for Sub Pop and/or any of the bands we’re lucky enough to work with.
