The quartet recorded a demo in 1984. Stone Gossard (Ducky Boys/March of Crimes) soon joined and the band recorded Come On Down for Homestead Records in 1985. Steve quit before Green River’s first “tour” and was replaced by Bruce Fairweather (Deranged Diction).
This version of the quintet recorded Dry As A Bone and Rehab Doll for Sub Pop before crumbling in 1987.
HIGHLIGHT:
Seattle band Green River may go down in history as the first ‘grunge’ band. They were the first band to release a record on the Sub Pop label. The band has become an important footnote in the development of the ‘90s rock movement. Some of its members went on to worldwide success in grunge music.
