RECORD STORE DAY – SUB POP STYLE

5411

It’s time again for Record Store Day (April 18), sometimes known as Record Store Day 2: The Reckoning. Last year we gave out free CD samplers of our astoundingly good bands, but this year we are doing something even better—SELLING stuff by our astoundingly good bands, but only in record stores, not even here on subpop.com.

We’re doing four limited-edition 7" singles with unreleased material by Flight of the Conchords (‘Pencils in the Wind’/‘Albi the Racist Dragon’), Obits (‘I Can’t Lose/‘Military Madness’), Vetiver (‘Wishing Well’/‘Pay No Mind’), and Blitzen Trapper (‘War is Placebo’/‘Booksmart Baby’). COLLECTOR NERD STATS: All of these are limited to 1500 copies, except Flight of the Conchords which is limited to 3000, but they’re on TV so….

We’re also releasing an 18-track live set from Iron & Wine’s Woman King tour in 2005, but this one’s on CD with extra cute packaging to make it look like a tiny 45. Adorable, and limited to 5000.
Learn more about Record Store Day here. See you in the vinyl bins, bro!

A Form of Paying Attention March 2009

5352

Alright, guys, fuck yeah! Two thousand nine is really picking up speed here at HQ and we’ve got some (dare I say) great stuff for you in the lovely month of March. On March 10 we will release the new HANDSOME FURS record on CD & LP. If you order FACE CONTROL before 3/10 we will include a CDR with 4 live album tracks recorded in Seattle. Buttons, stickers, blah blah blah, yes, you get that, too! Also, we’re doing a thing now that lets you stream the whole album once you purchase from subpop.com. That’s cool, right? March 10 is also the release date for the MARK SULTAN (the BBQ half of the King Khan & BBQ show) seven inch “Hold On” b/w “I Hear a New World”. The songs are great and so is the art/packaging. Get with it.

The OBITS record I BLAME YOU comes out on March 24th and I couldn’t be more excited—this is my record of the year. (No other records need apply.) We’ll give you a lenticular (Google it) postcard designed by the band if you pre-order, plus butts and sticks, AND the ability to stream! All this and nothing more if you order before March 23! That same day is the day we release BUNNY GETS PAID by RED RED MEAT in deluxe form including a 7-song 2nd disc of alternate, demo and single versions of album tracks, plus b-sides, covers and a previously unreleased song from the same era (“St. Anthony’s Jawbone”), all put together by the band. GET IT!

March is also the month of SXSW in Austin, TX. As has become our custom, we will be having a little Sub Pop showcase on two stages on Thursday, March 19 at the Radio Room. Here’s the sitch:
8:00 No Age (outside)
9:00 Red Red Meat (outside)
9:30 Mark Sultan (inside)
10:00 Obits (outside)
10:30 Daniel Martin Moore (inside)
11:00 Vetiver (outside)
11:30 Tiny Vipers (inside)
12:00 Blitzen Trapper (outside)
12:30 Pretty & Nice (inside)
1:00 Handsome Furs (outside)

Vetiver’s Tight Knit Pre-order Comes With Free 7”

5295

While it’s true, you could wait until Tight Knit, the spectacular new album from Vetiver finds its way into your local record or appliance store, you should probably take advantage of the fact that we are giving away a free 7” single with pre-orders of the album through subpop.com. This is a “while supplies last” type deal, meaning that we will give away these singles until they are gone and then that’s it. Do this today, in other words. Vetiver’s Sub Pop debut will be released on February 17th on CD and LP (LP comes with a free digital download code, btw), either of which will arrive with the “Hey Baby Doll” 7”. And if, as I do, you like to be even further rewarded with free things for making intelligent purchases, you will be enthused to learn that we’ve got Vetiver-related stickers and a button for you as well. PLUS! Every pre-order will get access to a full album stream on our site all the way up until release date. So you don’t have to wait to hear the record! Go ahead, savvy consumer, buy Vetiver’s Tight Knit album from us now.

Pre-order Tight Knit here.

Treat yourself to a matching Vetiver t-shirt here.
