APRIL 17, 2010 IS RECORD STORE DAY!

6484

IN HONOR OF THIS SPECIAL DAY, SUB POP RECORDS WILL RELEASE A MARVELOUS RANGE OF MUSIC PRODUCTS, AVAILABLE ONLY IN PARTICIPATING RECORD STORES

Record Store Day In-Store Performances by Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba, No Age, Male Bonding & Dum Dum Girls

Originally conceived in 2007 as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally, the first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Now celebrated the third Saturday every April, it’s the one day each year that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists and labels to celebrate the art of music. We at Sub Pop Records have put together a whole raft of releases (seven in all!) to help entice people into record stores to enjoy the many pleasures offered there. Each destined for future collector’s item status, the Sub Pop Record Store Day 2010 series of releases is sure to appeal to the minor OCD tendencies of every true music enthusiast. To find a participating store, go here.

The Helio Sequence, Fleet Foxes and Arthur & Yu - all on Live at KEXP Vol. 4

4657

One of the ways our friends at KEXP raise money to keep on keepin’ on is through the sale of their series of Live at KEXP compilations. These CDs feature KEXP’s exclusive, live in-studio recordings and recordings from live remote broadcasts across the country. And, Volume 4 is coming out on September 16th! This new installment includes several artists whose recordings are generally available on the Sub Pop label. Specifically, these artists…

The Helio Sequence, who perform the song “Can’t Say No” from their album Keep Your Eyes Ahead
and
Fleet Foxes with the song “Oliver James” from their self-titled album.

Plus! This volume also includes the song “Lion’s Mouth” from Hardly Artists Arthur & Yu.

Live at KEXP – Volume 4 is evidently available exclusively through Insound and you can (and should) pre-order it now!

The Helio Sequence Went on Tour in Europe and Have Some Things to Show You About

4293

This just in from our friends in The Helio Sequence

Hi there-
Benjamin and I just got back from a great tour in Scandinavia and the UK with Low. Here are a few things we learned while over there:

  1. People in Sweden really are more attractive, intelligent and well educated than everywhere else AND Stockholm really is cleaner, more sophisticated and charming than anywhere else.
  2. The Danish use a “floating ground” system, which for those of us with no electrical training means: “watch out or you’ll be shocked with 240 volts on your lips if you touch that microphone!”
  3. Drinking enough Scotch on an overnight ferry ride across the English channel has a similar effect to taking 4 Dramamine. But…either way you will still feel like you’re on the ferry for the entire next day, even if you are on solid ground.
  4. They DO NOT drive on the wrong side of the road in the UK (and you will definitely be set straight if you say otherwise on stage!)
  5. Stonehenge actually isn’t smaller than you think it will be when you see it for the first time…it actually seems bigger…that is, if you expected it to be smaller in the first place because everyone has already told you it will be smaller than you expect it to be. Get what I mean?
  6. If you are on stage in Gateshead do not say “Hello Newcastle!!!”
  7. Brown sauce is good…on just about everything. Mushy peas are not as disgusting as they sound. A Banger IS a type of food. And beans for breakfast is a possibility.
  8. Watch what you say and do in the UK because Big Brother really is watching. Just take a look around and see how many CCTV cameras are trained on you at any given moment anywhere you may be.

That concludes the observational part of this post. Now, on to the news. We’ve got a really big US tour to announce!!! We’ve had people e-mailing asking us “Please come to Peoria” and “Please come to Evanston”…well, we’re not going to make it to either of those cities but we are going to a whole lot of other places. The full list of our tour dates is here. We’d love to see you out at the show!
