In an effort to further illustrate how awesome, all encompassing, and exciting the upcoming Sleater Kinney box set, Start Together, is, we’ve put together this little trailer. The trailer seems to be very effective because I keep hearing it from all of my co-worker’s cubicles this morning; which is to say, the Sub Pop hype machine seems to be working.
NOTE: We are very nearly out of the colored-vinyl, limited Loser Edition of the box set, which you can pre-order from us here.
After having to wait four long years for the follow up to Avi Buffalo’s breakthrough self-titled album, we finally get the fantastic At Best Cuckold, an album that according to NME, is “close to perfection” and a 9/10 (read the review here). Pick up your copy wherever fine records are sold or, [ahem], from us here at Sub Pop.
Today could be one of the busiest release days in Sub Pop’s longish and successfulish history with FOUR releases in one day including the release of Sub Pop’s publishing debut, “I Apologize in Advance”, our first book ever and straight from the minds of Danny Bland and Greg Dulli (The Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers, Gutter Twins). The day is also shared by King Tuff’sinfectiousBlack Moon Spell, Sarah Silverman’s filthy and hilarious We Are Miracles, and GOAT’snever to be tamed Commune.

clipping.’s “Inside Out,” is the latest video from the group’s critically acclaimed Sub Pop debut, CLPPNG.
Pigeons and Planes, who premiered the absurdist visual, had this to
say, “The video for the the L.A.-based trio’s “Inside Out” acts as a
quasi-sequel to their formidable “Work Work” video, which was also
directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada. The surreal video spins slowly, as a
headless Daveed Diggs’ ejects items as effortlessly as he does words.
It’s a smart way to place focus on the song’s lyrical content without
making it too obvious, and once again shows that clipping. put considerable amounts of care into everything they do.”
clipping. have extended their fall tour schedule in support of CLPPNG.

On October 21st, we here at Sub Pop Records will proudly release Start Together (pre-order), a 3,000-copy, limited-edition deluxe vinyl box set comprised of remastered editions of Sleater-Kinney’s

digitally today, September 2nd.
wildly acclaimed and influential band–formed in Olympia, Washington
in 1994–consisted of Corin Tucker (vocals and guitar), Carrie
Brownstein (guitar and vocals) and Janet Weiss (drums). Over the course
of a breakneck seven albums in ten years, Sleater-Kinney took rock music
in a new direction combining raw punk energy and an unabashedly
political stance. Greil Marcus writing in TIME Magazine called Sleater-Kinney “America’s best rock band” and Rob Sheffield said they’re “America’s best punk band ever. EVER” in Rolling Stone.
Calbi (Bruce Springsteen, John Lennon, Talking Heads) at Sterling Sound
has remastered these albums from the original analog tapes. “For such
ferocious music, it was actually a very delicate process,” says Calbi.
“I found, in dealing with one of the earlier albums, that my signal path
and compression, including my Burl B2 convertor, gave me a more
resonant, deeper sound on the guitars than the originals. Because the
band rarely, if ever, used bass, I felt that this added to the
aggressiveness and power of the band overall. I believe this treatment
added a subtle, yet important, dimension to the band, and I explored
each of the other albums with the same intention. Above all, their
music, from inception, stands the test of time for the cleverness and
emotional impact they brought to their genre.”
The box set is now available to pre-order from Sub Pop Mega Mart. The remastered catalog is also available to purchase immediately from iTunes, Amazon, along with the Sub Pop Mega Mart. People who pre-order the box set from Sub Pop Mega Mart
will receive immediate access to download high-quality remastered files
of all the albums.
