Big (and likely confusing…) news from the Sub Pop Limited Edition Colored Vinyl Department, Seattle Branch: Washed Out’s brand new and really very fantastic LP, Within and Without, comes in all sorts of colored vinyl. If you purchase said record at your local record merchant, you’ll get it on either white or light blue vinyl. There’s more white than blue, and absolutely no black, but there’s really no telling which you’ll get until you crack the seal. However, if you pre-order the record from us, the Sub Pop Records and T-shirts Co. of Seattle, WA, you’ll for sure get Within and Without on the somewhat more rare light blue vinyl.

This is not the only news from the aforementioned and completely real, Sub Pop Limited Edition Colored Vinyl Department, Seattle Branch. Like this… We’ve got the new one from Montreal’s Handsome Furs; Sound Kapital is the duo’s third full-length, and their best yet. Handsome Furs continue to evolve in unpredictable and exciting ways. Next up, we’ve got Black Up from Seattle’s enigmatic hip-hop crew, Shabazz Palaces. It was designed specifically to do so for a worn-in look (we’ve included a before/after washing photo for your reference. Fading will vary by washer). 2010 is over, and Sub Pop is ushering 2011 in like a record label ushering in 2011 with their guns-a-blazing, so to speak. January 18th is a busy day for the Sub Pop family. Sub Pop is releasing Daniel Martin Moore’s second full-length, In the Cool of the Day, as well as Mogwai’s Sub Pop debut, the 7" single “Rano Pano”. Also more: Next Ambiance is releasing their second record ever, Laru Beya by Honduran Aurelio. Still more: Hardly Art got something going on, too; a Fergus & Geronimo full length!

So, like I said, guns-a-blazing. February, March, and April have a similar look with new full lengths from The Twilight Singers, Mogwai, Papercuts, J Mascis, Obits, and Low. We tried to space it out a little bit, because that’s a lot to buy.

Did you know that No Age, one of the many great bands currently recording for the Sub Pop label, have a new record called Everything in Between coming out on CD and LP on September 28th? Well, they do! And, not only is Everything in Between a huge step in the creative evolution of the band, a culmination of life-threatening and life-celebrating experiences, an album that reflects the process of moving through these experiences, emerging better off for the wear and tear; in short, a revelatory new No Age album, but the packaging for both the CD and LP formats is exceptionally handsome. The LP has a full-on 12″×12″, 48-page book integrated into the LP sleeve, and the mini-gatefold CD includes two attached 10”x10” fold-out posters. Both were designed by Brian Roettinger, the same guy who did the packaging for the previous No Age album, Nouns, and received a Grammy nomination for his efforts. They are both really nice, is what we’re trying to show you about.

Ben Sollee & Daniel Martin Moore Fight Mountaintop Removal

Ben Sollee & Daniel Martin Moore are fighting Mountaintop Removal, a radical form or strip mining that has destroyed nearly one million acres of central Appalachia, join their fight by purchasing their new record, Dear Companion. Dear Companion is a collaboration between three Kentucky musicians; the songs were written and performed by Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore, produced by and featuring Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket and Monsters of Folk. Recorded in the first half of 2009 in their home state, Dear Companion explores their ties to the place they love and aims to draw attention to the problem of Mountaintop Removal coal mining (MTR) and its impact on the people and heritage of central Appalachia. On October 6th, we at Sub Pop will once again celebrate the lonely art of stand-up comedy with the release of Eugene Mirman’s new album God Is a Twelve-Year-Old Boy with Asperger’s. This will mark only the 5th comedy record we’ve released in our entire history. With our catalog numbers soaring impressively skyward, numbering in the 800s now, that’s a fact worth noting. 5 out of 800+? That means just about one half of one percent of our releases are from stand-up comedians. What I’m driving at here, people, is that we’re really choosey about our comedy. God Is a Twelve-Year-Old Boy with Asperger’s is Eugene Mirman’s second record on Sub Pop and we couldn’t be more proud. As you, discerning, attentive music fan, have undoubtedly noticed, we’ve recently been giving ourselves some well-deserved, showy pats on the back by reissuing some stand-outs from the Sub Pop catalog. This is what I’m trying to show you about: Red Red Meat’s Bunny Gets Paid, The Vaselines’ Enter The Vaselines, and the all deluxed-up Superfuzz Bigmuff. We’ve decided to carpe some diem and reissue a few more of our past favorites. Just yesterday, we released remastered versions Sunny Day Real Estate’s Diary and LP2 on colored vinyl (digital download code included) and CD, both of which feature bonus tracks. And, on September 22nd we’re putting out remastered versions of Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Bigmuff, Mudhoney, and Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge, all on very colorful, very collectible colored vinyl (also with digital download codes). What is perhaps less evident from the title is that it also contains 6 more songs that have been, up to now, only available as a CDR that Blitzen Trapper has been selling at their live performances for the past year or so.

Sometimes we just ask really nicely, but often we use little sales tricks to assist in turning your money into our money. You’ve never heard of Daniel Martin Moore, from Cold Spring, Kentucky and that’s okay. Before we got his unsolicited demo in January 2007, neither had we. Luckily, he’d heard of us, and contacted us the way people in Cold Spring still do—he sent us a package, just to see what would happen. We caught up with Daniel while he was working at a friend’s bed and breakfast in Costa Rica. Recorded in Los Angeles in late 2007/early 2008, Stray Age is his stunning, understated debut.
