Unearthed 2011 Record Store Day Stock Available

Admittedly, our warehouse can get pretty cluttered. This clutter can cause us to periodically misplace things. Well, amongst our blessed mess, we’ve unearthed a small handful of each our our otherwise out-of-print, 2011 Record Store Day singles, and have decided to offer them to you, our favorite customers. Seriously, you guys are the best. So pick up a Fleet Foxes 12", a Blitzen Trapper 7", and a Lower Dens 7" by clicking on the respective hyperlink. But do it quickly, there’s only a few of each left.

Free, Awesome Blitzen Trapper Key Chain w/ American Goldwing Pre-orders!

Okay, there are a couple key points to note about the pre-order for Blitzen Trapper’s third Sub Pop release.

First, the first 500 people who pre-order the CD or LP from us get a really awesome key chain inspired by the open-roadedness album title (as illustrated in the accompanying photos).

Second, if you’re among the first 300 people who pre-order American Goldwing on vinyl, you’ll get it on very limited edition white vinyl.

And lastly, we’re offering you a what we’re calling a “bundle” (if you will). This works by offering you a new Blitzen Trapper t-shirt + the CD or LP at a lower price than if you’d ordered them separately! Crazy right?!

Also worth noting: as of right now, we don’t even have a t-shirt design, but it’s important to know that we are certain that it’s going to be among the best Blitzen Trapper shirts ever! It’s a bit of a gamble, we admit, but it’s like you’ll end up the victor with a great new shirt and Blitzen Trapper’s best record yet.

Let’s face it, one of the greatest problems facing our nation—our world, even—is an unadorned turntable platter. Records are scratched due to harsh platters—or worse yet, records aren’t scratched because of too much friction from platters! Well, the Sub Pop Records R&D team has been hard at work devising a plan to assuage this worldwide problem, and our solution is an efficient one: we take a technology that already exists, put our name on it and sell it to you with a heavy-handed pitch.

We give you the Sub Pop slipmat—designed by Jeff Kleinsmith and printed on heavy felt; this is a handsome addition to any hi-fi system.

Pick one up here.

Pre-order Beach House's new CD/LP, Receive LTD ED Thing

January 26th is not only my little brother’s birthday, it’s also the release date for Teen Dream, the Sub Pop debut from Beach House. I’ll have two reasons to celebrate, you’ll probably have just the one. But seeing as Teen Dream is already being heralded one of the best records of 2010 (like here and here, for instance), what a celebration it will be! Both the CD and LP versions of Teen Dream come packaged with a DVD featuring a video for every song on the record. (The LP also comes with a download code for all of the songs on the album.) AND! Should you opt to pre-order the album from us, here at subpop.com, you’ll also be getting a copy of a scrapbook that Beach House’s Victoria Legrand is putting together using scanned excerpts from the lyric book she used while writing Teen Dream! She’s making that just for us and we’re giving it just to you, either here at subpop.com or through select independent record stores. She’s super sweet, you guys. So, between that, the amazing songs on the record, the DVD, the fact that you can stream the record after you place your pre-order, and a couple free stickers, you’ve got plenty of reasons to order.

Pre-order Teen Dream here

Download a track from the new record for free here

New Grand Archives CD/LP Sep 15th - Free GA bandana with pre-order!

On September 15th, we’re releasing a new Grand Archives record. It’s their second, it’s called Keep in Mind Frankenstein and, oh man, are we excited about it! We are also pretty excited about the special treat we have for you pre-orderers of this record. If you order the CD or LP (which comes with a digital download code) by September 15th, we’ll throw in a totally limited (and equally sweet) custom screen-printed Grand Archives bandana at no extra charge. This was something the band thought up and we got behind it immediately. Grand Archives want to give their fans bandanas? Then they get bandanas! We will also throw in Grand Archives and Sub Pop related buttons and stickers. So let’s do a quick recap: pre-order by September 15th, get a Grand Archives bandana, buttons and stickers. Plus, the handsomely packaged (the jackets for both formats feature some fancy, gold foil-stamped printing) CD and/or LP! Oh yeah, you’ll also get access to a stream of the entire record so you can listen to it right away. This is very, very good for you.

Pick up Keep In Mind Frankenstein here.

Check out a track here.

And, you really should see Grand Archives on the road!

Dean and Randy from No Age recently teamed up with the folks at Altamont Apparel to commission a series of t-shirts by some of their favorite artists based on the theme “Get Well Soon.” And, right now through next Friday, you can enter a contest on the Altamont site to win these shirts, plus a bunch of No Age stuff we gave them. The Altamont folks gave us a handful of the Get Well Soon shirts and we are, as of now, giving them away to the first 5 people to buy No Age stuff from us. There are 3 larges and 2 mediums. Write “No Age Get Well Large” in the comments section of your order if you want the large shirt and “No Age Get Well Medium” in the comments section if you want the medium shirt.
Green River T-shirts Are a Go

This is the one and only Green River t-shirt (that we’re aware of, at least) and it has been reissued on high-quality, 180-gram, American Apparel cotton (the gram thing isn’t true, but it helps an otherwise needy metaphor). The front of the shirt features the band and the back boasts a six-pack paired with the term, “Ride the Fucking Six-Pack”. So if you’re wearing it to school, you may need to turn it inside-out when you get off the bus.

Pick it up here

With the help of our genre-bending style, you can pick up one of these Sub Pop baseball hats and look pretty gangsta, like our pal Richard, here, or look more cuddly than anything, just like our friend Darrick. And with the ingenuity from the folks at Flex-fit, it doesn’t matter what size your head is, just choose S/M or L/XL and you’ll be covered.

So pop a cap in your virtual basket! They are available for that right here.

It’s been several tense weeks here at the Sub Pop International World-Headquarters due to a lack of the Gutter Twins’ Saturnalia on vinyl.

Hey all you Horses-Heads! What? Not cool? Maybe I’ll try to come up with a more flattering nickname for Band of Horses fans. Or better yet, maybe no nickname at all. Anyway, I thought you should know about a brand new Band of Horses seven inch single featuring No One’s Gonna Love You on the a-side and a cover of Am I a Good Man, by Them Two, on the b-side, recorded live for KEXP.

These will go pretty quick, so pick one up right here

The reason you don’t see an LP option when you try to pre-order Saturnalia is because we don’t have any more LPs to sell at the moment.
The super good news about this otherwise bleak reality is that we’re getting more made. In about a month or so, you’ll be able to order an LP copy of the record (complete with an MP3 download code), so please check back with us.

Pre-order Iron & Wine's Shepherd's Dog!

It feels pretty great to spread good news, doesn’t it? It does! Ready?
We just wanted to let you all know that the long-awaited new record from Iron & Wine will be out on September 25th has us positively jubilant! As if sharing that news isn’t bringing us more than our fair share of joy, gluttons that we are, we have still more for you: If you pre-order the CD or LP through September 25th you’ll get it for $1 off our already low-price. We are clearly not in full possession of our faculties! Plus! (I’m beginning to feel like I’m hosting an infomercial…) We will include a bonus CD with two b-sides (the songs “Serpent Charmer” and “Arms of a Thief”), as well as the stickers and buttons for which we are internationally somewhat famous for giving away to you, dear friends who give us your money.

Here’s some info on the new record…

2005’s Woman King distinguished itself from previous Iron & Wine records with a deepening integration of spiraling, dense opuses with intimate confessionals and with The Shepherd’s Dog this integration is complete. Recorded by Sam Beam with the assistance of longtime producer Brian Deck and engineer Colin Studebaker, The Shepherd’s Dog succeeds in accomplishing a cathartic recasting of the artist’s intentions. The arrangements here are kaleidoscopic and rich. “White Tooth Man” rocks with a desperate, menacing intensity while “Boy with a Coin,” the album’s first single, is darkly playful with a handclap hook tumbling under its cascading melody. The whole album breathes. Its seductive rhythms percolate and undulate, from the Psych-Bhangra-redux of “Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car” to the album’s last dance-a waltz-“Flightless Bird, American Mouth.” Compositionally, it is Iron & Wine’s most ambitious and accomplished recording to date. It’s also the most satisfying.

Pre-order Patton Oswalt's Werewolves and Lollipops!

On July 10th, we’re putting out a new Patton Oswalt CD/DVD called Werewolves and Lollipops.

Along with the usual buttons and stickers (one of which features the catchy, minorly filthy saying, pulled straight from the CD/DVD, “Erect in Defiance of Gods’s Will”) that come with our online orders, we are offering two bucks off all pre-orders! As if that weren’t enough, Patton came into our offices and abused our photo booth. The results: ten autographed photo strips of Patton Oswalt. We are giving away these white-hot collectibles at random to 10 out of our first 100 pre-orders of Werewolves and Lollipops!

Order often and early!
