ZEN GUERRILLA

Shadows On the Sun - SP530

2054

San Francisco's beloved (this from the SF Bay Guardian: "There's a new king in town and the gap between them and the remainder is a mile wide.") Zen Guerilla returns with their fifth full-length. Shadows on the Sun is certainly the band's most complex effort to date, revealing the post-apocalyptic Otis Redding lurking within singer Marcus Durant. With one foot in the Stones, the Kinks and Led Zeppelin, the other rooted in the Ohio Players, the Stylistics, and the Temptations, Zen Guerilla provides a synthesis from both sides of the tracks. And, the clincher is witnessing Zen Guerilla in the flesh; theirs is a live show blending the conviction and showmanship of James Brown and vintage Butthole Surfers-esque psychedelic sideshow.
