FLEET FOXES

Fleet Foxes - SP777

4223

Fleet Foxes are five. There are five of them, and they are from Seattle. They are, for lack of an imminently more marketable descriptor, a group trafficking in baroque harmonic pop. And the joy they derive in doing so is palpable. We feel it too. They are, self-described, not much of a rock band. With the help of credit cards, minimum wages, tip money, friends and family, Fleet Foxes crafted their first demo, and subsequently the Sun Giant EP and this debut full-length album, with family friend Phil Ek manning the rudder. Drawing influence from the traditions of folk music, pop, choral music and gospel, sacred harp singing, West Coast music, traditional music from Ireland to Japan, film scores, and their NW peers, Fleet Foxes ranges in subject matter from the natural world and familial bonds to bygone loves and stone cold graves. Robin Pecknold is in Fleet Foxes: “All we strove for with this record was to make something that was an honest reflection of who we are, citizens of the western United States who love all kinds of music and above all else love singing…” And we believe them.

If you pre-order Fleet Foxes on CD or LP by June 3rd, you’ll automagically receive $2 off! That makes the CD $10 and the LP $12!

The glorious gate-fold vinyl LP version, by the way, comes with a digital download code, AND includes the Sun Giant EP on a second, enclosed, largely complimentary (and certainly complementary) piece of vinyl! This, it seems worth mentioning, is currently the only way to get Sun Giant on vinyl. Also worth mentioning: this version of the LP, the one with that comes packaged with the Sun Giant EP, is the same version of the LP that you will find wherever and whenever you might buy it — not just here through subpop.com, and not just if you pre-order it.

anticipation

I went to my local independent record store with great anticipation of this album after i had heard only a few tracks. Then I’m told I have to wait, that it’s not released yet? What cruel trick this is and what have I done to deserve this? It’s cool. Hey, go ahead and release the album already. Thanks you guys are truly amazing! Come to northern Kentucky!

the connection with Flanders is... ?

Even if I didn’t like the music, which I do, I would buy this because it has a Pieter Breughel painting on the cover.

What A Beautiful Song...

“White Winter Hymnal” is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard in a very long time. I can’t wait to hear the whole album!

Humble and Majestic

Humble and majestic are two words that best describe Fleet Foxes for me. I’m stunned and warmed by your music every time I hear it. You guys are excellent in your musicianship but what sends your songs over the top is the skill with which you compose and arrange your songs. I’m bummed I missed your sold out show with Blitzen Trapper in Washington, DC a few months ago but I’m planning on catching you guys in July when you roll back around. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to hear your new album!

2LP

What’s that about? Isn’t the album about 40 minutes long? Are there any extras on the vinyl?

by tcote @ May 31, 2008, 7:11 AM

Oz leak?

A friend of mine managed to buy Fleet Foxes on vinyl in Australia yesterday, May 30. How is that possible? He said the second disc of the double set was the Sun Giant EP.

by RL @ May 31, 2008, 8:04 AM

Fleet Foxes (on vinyl) comes with Sun Giant (on vinyl)

The second piece of vinyl that comes with the LP version of the Fleet Foxes full-length is indeed the Sun Giant EP! So, if you buy this record on vinyl, you will also get the EP on vinyl. This is currently the only way to get Sun Giant on vinyl.

Sorry for not being more clear on that!

It doesn’t appear as a buying option…

by JorgeGS @ June 26, 2008, 4:50 PM

Also wondering...

What happened to the LPs? I was just about to order one, but noticed the option was no longer available; will there be another pressing if this one’s all sold out?

Fleet Foxes

I might have to get hold of the LP version of this album.

Do all copies of the LP come with the digital download code and Sun Giant EP on vinyl?

For instance, does the one offered for about $22 including shipping by Caiman, the Amazon Marketplace vendor, include the Sun Giant on vinyl and the download code?

by Chazmaniac @ July 29, 2008, 6:50 PM

Where's the LP?

Sun it Rises

The music is mesmerizing, beautifully made by talented musicians who have a deep understanding of their instruments and the sound that results from the interplay with fellow experts. The track “Sun it Rises” benefits from the un-credited, but obvious inspiration of the 1973 release “Sufficiently Breathless” by Captain Beyond, another group of expert musicians formerly of Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly, and Johnny Winter.

To Fleet Foxes

Your EP and LP possess an authentic aesthetic dignity to me. The kind of engaging but quite difficult at times joy that Elizabeth Bishop, John Ashbery present in their medium. I think Robin’s thoughts on Newsom & her compositional individuation are dead accurate. I think she’s of the real eminence of György Sándor Ligeti, Bob Dylan’s best work, Milton Avery and those in the last hundred years that I must keep acquainting myself with. You know you guys can only become more hermetic, more subtle and nuanced, more evasive and multidimensional and it is the kind of thing I foresee that doesn’t seem like a fraud but a palpable joy to dwell on for a while. Thanks for making my days and nights a little more tolerable than if you hadn’t.

Where is the Download Code in Vinyl Package?

I’m a buyer of South Korea.

I Bought the Vinyl 2LP From Amazon.com

But I didn’t find any information of using
mp3 download codes inside the package.

How can I find the download code & How can I use
that code to download? If anyone has an information, please reply me.

The Round House in Camden, London

I was dragged along to your gig last night in London at the Round House. I’ve only ever heard “White Winter Hymna” and thought that was good.

I kept an open mind and enjoyed what I heard, my only let down was the poor acoustics at the Round House as the overall sound was boomy and there was a lack of seperation.

It was really good to see how you guys responded to the crowd with your wit. Your humour, the way you jest on stage and your humbleness made me see you in a new light.

thank you for a lovely evening.
