Who’s handsome and furry all over? Not your mom, silly, the Handsome Furs! About-to-be-married couple Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade) and Alexei Perry formed the band in the winter of 2005, and toured Europe before they even had a record out. Their debut album, called Plague Park (lovingly referred to in World HQ as Plaque Park, which I guess would be a park in Candy Land, or possibly an amusement park designed by dentists to frighten children into a consistent dental…
The Pissed Jeans flew into Seattle for the weekend and boy are their arms tired. The dudes hit the Sub Pop offices on Friday for pizza and a meeting and then headed out to Ballard to play a show at the Sunset Tavern with the Unnatural Helpers and Sub Pop’s own Tiny Vipers. Despite technical problems with the bass amp and inferior Pac Northwest cinder blocks, the Jeans kicked total ass and left most of the crowd speechless and without…
The Seattle Times said in 2004 that “Few things say summer in the Northwest like the image of downy youngsters with laptops chaining themselves to old-growth trees.”Salty’s Seafood Restaurant’s website proclaims that “Summer in the Northwest brings sunny, warm weather and long days with star-studded evenings.” While neither of these generalized statements speak the whole truth about how awesome June is here, it goes without saying that we’re all so psyched, we’re practically crapping our pants.
I’ve been scratching my head for weeks now trying to figure out the next feature for the Sub Pop Online Shop and then just yesterday it dawned on me — why not ask Andy K, Head of Sales and Other Stuff, to name his TOP 5 RECORDS in the Sub Pop Shop? I mean, he knows sales. He is sales, for chrissakes! So, without further ado, let’s hear from Andy K, Sales Professional and Lover of Music.
The excellent video for Pissed Jeans also "very excellent song I’ve Still Got You (Ice Cream) ":http://www.subpop.com/assets/audio/3285.mp3 has, a little bizarrely, we’ll admit, been nominated as a “Freshmen” contender to be added into rotation on MTVu.
Go figure!
You should also go vote! The voting begins Monday, January 21st at 11am ESTHERE and will run for a week.
Don’t let us down. Don’t let Pissed Jeans down. And, most of all, don’t let yourself down. "Demand Pissed Jeans on…

The mighty Sub Pop is having a HUGE showcase at 2008’s SXSW in Austin this year. How huge is it? Two stages huge!
Our showcase will be on Friday March 14th at Bourbon Rocks and Bourbon Rocks Patio which are both connected, but not really connected. Bourbon Rocks is located at 508 E. 6th St. (6th and Neches) and doors are at 7:15pm.
All of the bands/artists/comedians participating in our various 20th anniversary revelries have agreed to play for free in the hopes of raising a bunch of money to give to a bunch of worthwhile organizations. Basically, we’re pooling the money we make, dividing it amongst everyone playing and each band/artist/comedian picks a recipient.
Herewith the list of organizations to which these folks have elected to donate their share of the proceeds. And, sometimes, where possible, we’ve included a bit of info…
To celebrate the label’s twentieth birthday, Sub Pop will release a series of re-issues starting with Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Bigmuff: Deluxe Edition (which, like their brand new album The Lucky Ones , comes out May 20, 2008), launch a limited run of the Sub Pop…
So, in keeping true to our vague oath to put more t-shirts up for sale in the near future, I present to you another limited-time t-shirt sale. Now through Thursday, July 2nd, we’ve got Pissed Jeans, Sub Pop, Band of Horses, and Handsome Furs shirts on sale for $10! It’s summer dudes, treat yourself to a t-shirt.
We’ve been experiencing record breaking heat this summer (103 degrees!) and we’re all puffy and sweaty and stinky, but we still have some very fine (and not at all puffy or stinky) albums from some of our faves coming out this month. First up, Fruit Bats are back with their third LP entitled The Ruminant Band, available on CD and LP, and I whole heartedly believe that this is the record Eric D. Johnson was born to make. It’s beautiful…
Here we go again! The second, enchanting Pissed Jeans record on Sub Pop, King of Jeans, comes out August 18th and will be available on CD, LP (first pressing on creamed-color vinyl, complete with a digital download code), and the invisible formatway known as the MP3. Sometimes we just ask really nicely, but often we use little sales tricks to assist in turning your money into our money. This time we’re using a huge sales trick: we’re giving away a…
The title says it all. If you happen to to be a Seattle resident, or if you’re just visiting, you have a multitude of Sub Pop & Family partying options this weekend. Thank goodness Lacey made a complete weekend guide or else we’d all be totally lost, wandering and partyless.
WFMU, one of our favorite independent free form online radio stations, is throwing the first(hopefully annual) WFMU Fest at the Music Hall of Williamsburg this weekend (Oct. 1-3)! I haven’t heard of anything as amazing going on in NYC this weekend, so there’s no excuse to miss it! The coolest part of the festival—Pissed Jeans are headlining Friday night!
Check out the other bands playing in the sweet line-up:

We here at Sub Pop have been busy bees this year, releasing tons of awesome records, and bringing music to the people. It’s not just us, however. The bands have also, in the words of Retribution Gospel Choir, been “workin harddd!” and have done an unusual amount of in-studios over the past couple of months. Here they are for your listening pleasure:
It’s that time of year again where we get to tell you our favorite things from the year 2009. There were going to be some novelty entries like “Top 10 Rudest People in the Office” and “Top 10 Top 10 Lists” but then I realized that these lists are only marginally interesting anyway, so why beat a dead horse by throwing in a bunch of office in-jokes. Anyhow, I’ve taken it upon myself to offer up *a package of all…

On King of Jeans, the fantastic and also most recent Pissed Jeans album, there’s a great song called “False Jesii Pt. 2.” This song is all about not bothering to do the things that might, just maybe, make your life easier/better/more successful. It’s a truly great song. That Pissed Jeans made a video for this particular song two full years after its release is, believe you me, the kind of life-imitating-art-type situation that is not lost on any of us.
