We’re very happy to announce that Sub Pop Records has signed the Dum Dum Girls! Having released an EP on Captured Tracks, a 7-inch on Hozac and a CD EP on Zoo Music the Dum Dum Girls churn out blissful pop that falls somewhere between The Ramones and the Ronettes. Which, in our opinion, is a very good thing.
But, why trust the highly questionable opinion of one of Sub Pop’s lavishly compensated marketing flunkies? You should really listen yourself!…
The title says it all. If you happen to to be a Seattle resident, or if you’re just visiting, you have a multitude of Sub Pop & Family partying options this weekend. Thank goodness Lacey made a complete weekend guide or else we’d all be totally lost, wandering and partyless.
Happy March, y’all! I am so glad to be done with February. It seems like such a bogus month what with its handful of days. I like a month with all 31 days. A month that knows it could stop at 30, but spits in the face of slowing down. Also, when there are lots of days in a month we can release more records more of the time. For instance, March 2 we release Fight Softly by "The Ruby…
If you pre-order I Will Be by March 30th, you’ll receive a reissued CDR of her out-of-print Zoo Music EP, featuring 5 early Dum Dum Girls tracks. You’ll also get Dum Dum Girls stickers and probably some other stickers too. OH! I almost forgot—if you pre-order the record right this moment, you can also listen to it—RIGHTTHISMOMENT—via a link to a full album stream. So those three reasons, plus the 11 amazing reasons on the record (the songs,…
Sure, we are (as usual) pretty pleased with ourselves about this week’s release of the Dum Dum Girls ’ LP I Will Be. They’re a great band and this is a fantastic record. It’s hard to be humble when you can take largely undeserved credit for some of this excitement that is brewing…
The band is currently in the Top 10 at Insound this week and can also be found in Radio K’s Weekly Release Spotlight. You can read the…
We recently held a contest to find out what kind of info you guys wanted to know about David Cross, and all we got were a lot of questions wanting to know shit about why he’s such a dick or about his relationship with Amber Tamblyn. You know, the thing is, David and I have had some really great times together, as you can see from our photos. Also, he’s a really great, sweet guy who cares a lot about…
In celebration of the middle of May, some sunny new photos of the Dum Dum Girls, and a huge overseas tour, we’re giving away two free Dum Dum Girls MP3s. The first, “Bhang, Bhang, I’m a Burnout,” is the second song from their Sub Pop debut, I Will Be, which is purchasable (as always) from your lovely friends here at subpop.com. The second is “Pay for Me,” which was previously only available on their Record Store Daysplit with "Male…
This lovely young lady is named Hearty McDonough, and her dad is in for a world of pain ten years from now. Let’s pretend they don’t grow up and start dating and just watch this again instead.
It’s Male Bonding Monday here at Sub Pop! And, what better way to kick a case of the Garfields?
First off, we’re giving away a free mp3 download of the song Year’s Not Long off the upcoming Male Bonding full-length record album debut Nothing Hurts. You may have recently read the “Best New Music” track review Pitchfork posted about this song, written by a guy with the unbelievably awesome name of Larry Fitzmaurice. If you have not, please "do so…
April 17th is, for the third time ever, what we in the biz like to call Record Store Day. Everyone’s all like “oooh it’s like Christmas for record nerds!” and “record store day is my favorite new day of the year!” but the real truth is that Record Store Day just means we can sell you more records, AND, record stores will continue to exist! (Win/win) This year we are releasing limited edition records (the number in parentheses = the…
At least that’s what the Google translate tool told me that the title of this post should be. Looks like growing up on the border of Mexico and 8 years of Spanish class didn’t work out so good! Anyway, Male Bonding are not only coming over for a bunch of dates with Vivian Girls, Dum Dum Girls, the Soft Pack and SXSW but they’re also going to play the Todd P festival in Monterrey! The line up for the MtyMX…
It’s that time of year again where we get to tell you our favorite things from the year 2009. There were going to be some novelty entries like “Top 10 Rudest People in the Office” and “Top 10 Top 10 Lists” but then I realized that these lists are only marginally interesting anyway, so why beat a dead horse by throwing in a bunch of office in-jokes. Anyhow, I’ve taken it upon myself to offer up *a package of all…

Dum Dum Girls are releasing a new EP on March 1st entitled He Gets Me High. You can now listen to the title track off the ladies’ new EP by entering your email address in the widget above. Just do it, you know you want to.
All in the name of fun, the band are currently asking fans to send them pictures of whatever or whoever gets them high. Send your contribution to ddgLUV@gmail.com and you could see it show…
We at Sub Pop Records will be very thoroughly celebrating Record Store Day this year, with a number of releases and events across the country very nearly beyond our meager ability to count. We’ll have limited-edition Record Store Day exclusive releases from Blitzen Trapper, Fleet Foxes and Lower Dens, a free 19-track Sub Pop sampler, and in-store performances by Obits, Low and The Head and the Heart. Plus, the self-titled debut from The…
Dum Dum Girls have a new record coming out on September 27 called Only in Dreams and we can tell you that it is real good. The band will embark on a 31 date World Tour beginning on October 1st in San Diego, CA and ending on November 17 in London, England. All North American shows are with Crocodiles, and will see Colleen Green and Royal Baths sharing opening duties. See below for a full list of dates.
Write about what you know. That’s what they say. But that’s a lot easier said than done when what you know is very, very difficult to bear. That was the challenge Dum Dum Girls’ leader Dee Dee faced when writing the songs for the band’s moving second album Only in Dreams. Listen to the slowdive ballad “Coming Down,” which Dee Dee wrote not long after her mom passed away. "That song came out of being in and out of awareness…
