Only a mere matter of weeks after many other people have done so, we are quite proud to announce that several of the bands and artists we work with here at Sub Pop Records were nominated for 2006 Plug Independent Music Awards. Of course, we think very highly of these folks and their records (and, naturally, ourselves…), and feel quite strongly that you should vote for them all (and us, mostly us).
Here’s where you can vote!

The song Is There A Ghost from the new Band of Horses album Cease to Begin is a contender for Steve Lamacq’s Rebel Playlist on the UK’s BBC 6 Music this week! And you can vote for your favourite (note the extra “u” – that’s authentic Anglophilia!) of three tracks here (scroll to the bottom of the page) until midnight on Sunday, September 30th. The winner gets played every day on Steve’s 6 Music show next week.
We’re into it….

Alright, let’s get straight to the point here—Sub Pop is releasing Cease to Begin, the second long player from Band of Horses, on October 9th and we’d really like to sit around and shoot the shit but we’ve got a lot of work to do what with a) work and b) Halloween costume planning. We’re giving you TWO BUCKS OFF the low price through street date + sticker and button, and you also get free mp3s of the tracks if…

R Buckminster Fuller once said, “I just invent, then wait until man comes around to needing what I’ve invented,” and this would be wholly unremarkable but for the fact that Harry D. Hudson, Sub Pop’s Master of Technolo-something, said nearly this same thing to me about a new product that he is now prepared to offer for sale exclusively on this very website. What is this mysterious invention that will revolutionize the world as we know it? What ungodly creation…

I kinda hate year the end round-ups and trite “best of” lists that will make up the rest of the journalistic year, but I think it’s a practice steeped in deep tradition and I guess it’s somewhat helpful, so here’s a little bit about what went down at Sub Pop in the past months. 2007 brought us follow up records from old faves The Shins, Low, Jennifer Gentle, Iron and Wine, Band of Horses, Kinski, and Mudhoney as well as…

Hey all you Horses-Heads! What? Not cool? Maybe I’ll try to come up with a more flattering nickname for Band of Horses fans. Or better yet, maybe no nickname at all. Anyway, I thought you should know about a brand new Band of Horses seven inch single featuring No One’s Gonna Love You on the a-side and a cover of Am I a Good Man, by Them Two, on the b-side, recorded live for KEXP.
These will go pretty quick,…

On March 18th, Sub Pop will be releasing Only as the Day Is Long, our first record with Sera Cahoone. Sera played in Carissa’s Wierd and played drums on the Band of Horses album Everything All the Time, and her self-titled, self-released debut record was one of our favorites of 2006. Not that we really need to sweeten this pot, but if you pre-order the new CD by March 18th, we’ll take 2 bucks off our already strikingly low price…

It’s that time of year again where we get to tell you our favorite things from the year 2009. There were going to be some novelty entries like “Top 10 Rudest People in the Office” and “Top 10 Top 10 Lists” but then I realized that these lists are only marginally interesting anyway, so why beat a dead horse by throwing in a bunch of office in-jokes. Anyhow, I’ve taken it upon myself to offer up *a package of all…
