The five mellifluous, industrious, and hirsute young men of Fleet Foxes have, it was announced earlier today, won the inaugural Uncut Music Award! The Fleet Foxes’ debut won out over some very stiff competition, including the likes ot Radiohead, The Raconteurs, Vampire Weekend, Drive-By Truckers, and Bon Iver. Much more about all of this, including comments from the judges, can, and really should, be read here. Congratulations Fleet Foxes! We’re awfully proud of you guys and happy to see you getting the recognition you deserve!
They’ve really beaten off some stiff competition here. Tally-ho!
great news guys,
see you’re playing London next year. Any chance of another dublin gig?
my other comment was lost
effin was lost too!
Nice one, well deserved easily the best thing I’ve heard all year.
Took the kids to see you at Whelans on the back of a newspaper review never heard any of your music, not a note, I was blown away, bought the album at the gig, and its been on my playlist regularly ever since (the kids were not blown away – though they prefer NOFX, Muse etc)
I invited my friend over from the UK to the vicar street gig. He hadn’t heard any of your music before That gig! He was blown away.
My point is keep it up and many many more awards will be yours in the future.
Secret gig in Whelans next February? Keep me posted!
I have just returned form their concert in Vienna. I was with a friend in the firs row, they played – it seems – all their songs, and it was great. One of few bands that sound better live than on record, and I listen almost all other bands that has been nominated. It is great mixture of styles, voices, music and lyrics with warm personalities.
Just keep on going!
Best for Pitchfork 2008
…and the Fleet Foxes have also won Pitchfork’s Nr 1 (Best Albums of 2008):
congratulations! well deserved…
stiff competition?... no competition
with all due respect to the other bands and artists in the running (vampire weekend included – another very unique and talented group) Fleet Foxes have captured their souls in their music as well as the music’s soul. I haven’t seen anything this original and “noncommercial” that is this amazing since i don’t know when. I will be watching their climb to best new artist, as well as continued success. I don’t think they will be disappearing anytime soon, as long as they stay true to their spirits.
Also congrats to Sub Pop for taking a chance and recognizing this caliber of talent.
