on New Year’s Eve, I listened to Jamiroquai, Robbie Williams and (for reasons which continue to baffle) Pinl Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. I had no access to the stereo, so I am blameless. Fortunately spent the meander home (tea with Bailey’s instead of milk. genius) listening to Soulsavers’ Broken on the iPod till I misjudged a straight bit on the pavement, tripped over a waist-high hedge and accidentally broke someone’s snowman. So, mostly crap music (albeit in sparkiling company) and a free carrot. Usual Thursday night out then.

We listened to a visibly-uncomfortable Justin Beiber serenade Selena Gomez, who didn’t seem to give two shits.

That’s a pretty definitive News Years in my mind.

Well, since it was New Year’s, I waited all night for midnight.
Then I listened to gunfire and fireworks, and then my dogs barking at said explosions. It was quite the beautiful cacophony if you ask me.

I saw the Dwarves live on NYE, so that’s what I listened to.

I was listening to a sweet disco/funk playlist. At midnight it was halfway through the 10min live version of Cece Peniston’s “Finally.” which I highly reccomend

I was listening to some stupid DJ play some crappy songs.

Right before the clock struck midnight, me and my friends started blasting Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” as loud as my friend’s turntable speakers would allow. It was his final night in his apartment and he was dead-set on starting the new year deaf. It was amazing.

On New Year’s Eve my brother-in-law and I listened to the vinyl Bleach re-issue I gave him for Christmas.

A playlist entitled “Legit ass playlist” I made, obviously featuring alot of Sub Pop artists because they are almost too legit.

At midnight I was outside in the center of Barcelona, so I wasn’t listening to anything ^^ But I had (and still am) been listening to a lot of Kap Bambino, they’re amazing.

I visited some friends in Minneapolis and I made up a song about my friend having 5 rugs in her Kitchen. We recorded it and then played it over and over and kept adding verses. It turned out very country-ish but it was still amazing.

every new years I like to listen to ‘The New Year’ by Death Cab, but other than that I listened to ‘Hospice’- The Antlers and the Fleet Foxes.

This New Year, I was at a friend’s apartment. He decided that we would only listen to Usher and Lady Gaga. Huh.

So, I had a dinner date who played jazz. All night long. It was unremarkable jazz too. This foreshadowed the lack of tongue when we kissed at midnight.

New Years Eve I got to listen to the sound of cards being shuffled, coffee brewing, and the sound of my own voice playing nice with my extended family. It wasn’t as bad as that just made it sound though…

As the clock struck 12, Public Enemy’s Bring the Noise blared from the speakers. I made it my resolution to bring the noise in 2010.

I am in Chicago and was prepping to see Jens Lekman in our fair city. Also saw Up In The Air on NYE so I accidentally loved hearing Elliott Smith during that film.

i listened to and watched a couple of acoustic acts at a house party, a country-rawk duo who covered PW Long, and a band who did lesbianized covers of ‘Baby Got Back’ and ’Let’s Talk About Sex’. later walked 90mins home through the snow listening to Phoenix then Mariachi El Bronx.

I was listening to my wife and in-laws karaoke. Lowlights included “We Gotta Get Out of this Place” and “Imagine.” Of course, after every round it was supposed to be my turn, but that was when it was time to get another Yuengling.

I was showing my buddy aaron beach house on nye since I’ve been obsessing over anything dream-pop lately.

as the evening wound on, the music gradually shifted into a bunch of chillwave, mostly memory tapes, neon indian and nite jewel. then we hit up a party where someone was djing. no idea what the dude was playing though…

i had just gotten nirvana “live at reading” the previous day as well as some rare cassettes of some shows, such as a really early soundgarden show back when they were called the shemps, and a copy of the scrapped pink floyd demos after dsotm entitled “household objects”. i also managed to get my hands on a couple snippets of sp20, particularly green river and no age. live albums such as the melvins “Alive at the F*cker Club”, mayhem “dawn of the black hearts”, and a couple snippets of the first nirvana show.

I think New Year’s Eve was the first time I tried listening to some Vic Chesnutt since his passing. It was appropriately stirring and heart-wrenching.

I was dancing to Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros, high kicking over a pub chair, twice successfully, the third time on video, unsuccessfully. Would’ve rather been listening to Teen Dream next to my lady on her couch in front of the fire.

we had a ‘frat party’ theme. we all dressed like douchebags with white hats, shitty cologne and jokes about tag teaming girlfriends, then played flipadelphia cup and drank moonshine. The music was the worst thing ever, lots of shitty radio hits and cringe worthy jock jams: alien ant farm covering michael jackson stands out because i got mad, the rest is a bit blurry tho- oh wait, when ‘born in the USA’ came on- everyone was just screaming the title over and over, and one chap mentioned that those were the only lyrics to the whole song.

Well I had been listening to several things, I went to a rooftop party, although it was raining and cold, but we had listened to the whole Loveless record by my bloody valentine and then i started playing the live version of kick out the jams by the mc5. i had timed it so well that at the moment of the new year, you can hear the speaker say “right now, its time to . . . KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHA FUCKAAAA” and then the riproaring rhythm section marked my first moments of 2010 . . . epic.

Apart from an extremely loud duck which lives on the canal by my house, I was listening to my girlfriend complaining, because, as usual, I was beating her at Scrabble. As a special treat, I was going to let her listen to my 44 year old copy of Benny Hill Sings LP, but alas, it wasn’t to be.

That, my friends, is what counts for a rock and roll New Years Eve in East Yorkshire.
