A Form of Paying Attention August 2009 - L Swain

We’ve been experiencing record breaking heat this summer (103 degrees!) and we’re all puffy and sweaty and stinky, but we still have some very fine (and not at all puffy or stinky) albums from some of our faves coming out this month. First up, Fruit Bats are back with their third LP entitled The Ruminant Band_, available on CD and LP, and I whole heartedly believe that this is the record Eric D. Johnson was born to make. It’s beautiful and fun and perfect for summer. Get it here or be sorry, and be sure to see them at the KEXP Mural Concert Series on 8/21 if you’re in the Seattle area. We are also releasing a 7” by Joe Pernice (as The Young Accuser) on the very same day, and it’s kind of a complicated story, so you might want to look hereaccuser/singles/unsound to read more about it. I am a little confused, but the music is rad, so whatevs. (Don’t you just hate whatevs?!)

August 18th is the release date for the highly anticipated second Sub Pop LP from Pissed Jeans, entitled King of Jeans. This record will, I assure you, tear you a new hole of some sort, wherever you see fit. It’s loud and fun and killer, and you will be listening to it shirtless at a late summer bbq while you are shotgunning beers and grabbing asses no matter what your gender. I am shirtless and drunk at my desk right now, as a matter of fact. Fuck you.

Blitzen Trapper is releasing a new EP called Black River Killer on August 25th and it features the song “Black River Killer” from their full length Furr as well as 6 more songs that have been, up to now, only available as a CDR that they’ve been selling at their live performances for the past year or so. Get it and make sure to check out the Black River Killer video by Daniel Elkayam that came out earlier this year.

All these folks are touring so make sure to see if Fruit Bats, Pissed Jeans, and Blitzen Trapper are coming to your town. Happy August.

When is the new BOH going to drop?

Can you guys provide some kind of update with regard to the new BOH CD? I know Grand Archives has a release date and I am really excited to hear that, but the lack of news about the BOH CD is disappointing. Any advanced word? Thanks.

I agree

Seriously, Band of Horses have been taking forever to do this. I definitely heard about them entering the studio in mississippi multiple months ago, beginning of the year maybe. I can be patient because they obviously are amazing, but this is ridiculous – can we have some news at least?

Seriously!

yeah its bugging the hell out of me too. All of the new songs they’ve been playing live are amazing, come on Sub Pop give us something at least.

it's true

Band of Horses started working on demos for the new record earlier in the year. They were hoping to record the demos and then begin the actual studio recording but the year got busier and they haven’t finished the recording. Ben got married in April and the band has been touring for a decent chunk of the year. I know that they’re eager to get back to recording though. Phil Ek is working with them again and although I haven’t heard the new songs, I’ve heard that it’ll be worth the wait. As soon as we have more info, I promise to share it!

Tiny Vipers´ records on vinyl?

How come you don’t give us Tiny Vipers´records on vinyl? It is perfect music for wax, and for the fall!

Oh yes, new BOH songs sounded great!

Just saw them live here in Helsinki, Finland. Amazing new ballad with beautiful vocal harmonies was one of them, they played about four new songs. -Worth to wait to be released indeed!
