Sub Pop Records WE'RE NOT THE BEST, BUT WE'RE PRETTY GOOD.

FAQ

What is your demo tape policy? - Dean H

If you’d like to send us a copy of your band’s demo, you can. We don?t listen to demos every day, but periodically we go through a bunch of them. Please don’t call or email to follow up; if we want to reach you, we will. It is extremely rare that a band gets signed on the strengths of a demo alone so our best advice to you is to keep playing out, build a fan base, tour, and get your name out there; these are the things that will bring label representatives to your shows and this is what will help you get a record deal. Good luck!

PS – This is not the place to leave a comment with a link to your band’s MySpace page. Aside from having very little chance to attract our attention, the links can mess up the comments section on the front page of the website. Which just means that we have to delete them.

Please see the “best advice” above, it really is sage! Thanks.

Just curious if anyone

Just curious if anyone from Sub Pop has actually looked at any of the “really hot” bands that have posted here.

The Answer is Not Very Likely

I don’t want to be a curmudgeon, but as far as I know the A&R staff spends no time looking at this page and even less following links to the MySpace pages that get posted here. I’m nervous encouraging this (since our demo piles are already insanely out-of-control), but you really have a better chance in getting one of us to listen to your music if you mail us an unsolicited demo. At least then we know you care enough to buy a stamp.

Pittsburgh, the Seattle of Tomorrow!

You should come to Pittsburgh PA sometime and listen in to the new alternative circuit that’s growing here.
