This is the worst thing you have done since the legend
Are you serious? These idiots were the worst act on T&G and make terrible music. They were without question the worst part of T&G’s 25th anniversary party. With such incredible, viable talent out there, this is who you guys sign? I’m sorry, but as a loyal Sub Pop fan I have to say something. I just threw up in my own lap. Wow.
by unklekippy @ February 24, 2010, 8:33 AM
I would like to be your new A&R guru. Clearly whoever’s at the helm right now isn’t working out.
by Johnny Fever @ February 24, 2010, 9:43 AM
Can’t believe all you naysayers. These gals are super-talented and making some innovative sounds.
Thank you sub pop – 2010 is turning out to be a great year!
by robschipul @ February 24, 2010, 6:34 PM
Let’s be honest here. The only people who like this shit are girls aged 14-25 who love snowboarding and “listening to all kinds of music(giggle)”. The only dudes who listen to this are trying to cop a piece of ass from one of the aforementioned bimbo’s. Am I a bitter, elitist dick? Sure I am, but I learned it from labels like Sub Pop and Touch & Go. Two legendary labels that were somehow fooled by this horrible shit. Can’t you release a new Mudhoney album or something? This is fucking lame.
by unklekippy @ February 25, 2010, 7:33 AM
no need to be a jerk
i’m a 28 year old male who’s been a fan for quite a while and who’s excited about this acquisition. and i don’t think i’ve ever used that for bimbo ass. unclekippy, calm down. it’s cool if you don’t like it, you don’t have to listen to it.
by kbarr @ February 25, 2010, 2:14 PM
Hey, I heard Matisyahu is looking for a new label. Maybe you guys should sign him. OK, I’m done now. Very disappointing.
by unklekippy @ February 25, 2010, 2:15 PM
not a jerk
kbarr you filthy, filthy hippy. While it is true that I do not have to listen, I am compelled to bitch and complain. If not for bimbo ass, why then?
by unklekippy @ February 25, 2010, 2:19 PM
you’re my hero. in the dirtiest, filthiest, hippiest of ways.
by kbarr @ February 25, 2010, 2:28 PM
kbarr, you’re alright. In a dirty, filthy hippy kind of way.
by unklekippy @ February 25, 2010, 2:42 PM
not feeling it
running a label in these tough times means putting out music that will sell. Who would of thought Warp records would be putting out indie rock like Grizzly Bear and Maximo Park? This was a label that was known for only putting out cutting edge electronic music, but hey look at them now. Raking in the bucks! I don’t agree with the signing and I am not a fan of coco rosie. However I can safely say that any money invested will turn a profit. Hence more sub pop releases from the other bands that are part of the roster.
by boy_vs_cassett @ March 1, 2010, 10:13 PM
Poeple divided, well, i can say that they have been a band. A band in the history and culture of music, and that’s a real fact, and that it also did touched a generation which where in deep musical trouble so it was empty and uncreative. Big up to cocorosie.
by thesweet08 @ March 2, 2010, 3:02 AM
look at it this way...
maybe this is the foot in the door that some of the other floating t/g artists need to sign on to the sub pop…
by subpop2000 @ March 2, 2010, 6:46 AM
I am a teenage girl
So i am not a teenage girl, But i happend to think CocoRosie are quite amazing. Working with critically acclaimed Antony Hegarty, as well as mixing Hip Hop, Beatboxing, Electronic, Opera, as well as many other Genres together, one might actually try and listen to the music instead of judging what you may see or hear from others. Sup pop not only has been signing other bands outside the Typical Indie sound but they seem to be bringing in some new talent to add the the long list of great artists. If you do not like it Do not buy it. But i will be ! Thanks Ladies!
by Deepskyobjects @ March 2, 2010, 10:58 PM
not only are they terrible
but cocorosie’s bizarre appropriation of hip-hop culture is racism disguised as art school quirk. absolutely terrible.
by iantenna @ March 4, 2010, 2:02 PM
Fuck grizzly bear
Love cocorosie. Am excited but I have a question. Why the fuck are people still talking about Grizzly Bear? The first record was about as boring as watching an ant trying to hump another ant. The second was slightly better but still pretty wanky. I could not be arsed to listen to the third. Cocorosie either make music for really smart people or complete dumbasses (I haven’t figure out which I am yet. Probably the latter.) Either way they are always interesting.
by fever_ @ March 4, 2010, 3:25 PM
Cocorosie make music for really smart people? I don’t even know how to respond to that. iantenna sums it up best with few words. White kids with trust funds who think they are somehow uniting the people by combining 15 genres of music(isn’t that Mike Patton’s turf?). Pretentious bullshit at it’s finest. I still can’t believe that people are this gullible. It would be interesting to see how many Sub Pop employees were for or against this signing.
by unklekippy @ March 5, 2010, 8:11 AM
How do you know they are trust fund babies? I heard that alot on blogs and shit…just curious why that is thrown around alot.
Anyways, I feel regardless of anything Most “indie” bands sound alike, sub pop roster included.
CocoRosie at least have made some sort of original sounds. I have to ditto fever_ . grizzly bear now thats a trust fund baby at its finest…..y dont they get this type of backlash is it cuz its girls? is it cuz they dont wear grandma dresses and are pitchfork approved???
I understand why they are one of the most poloraized acts around
but sum ppl are haterzzz. geez
not that serious guys.
by blacksand @ March 7, 2010, 1:05 AM
COCOROSIE FOR LIFE!
That’s the best thing you HAVE EVER DONE. CocoRosie is my favorite band and their make happy and wonderfull music. This is art. Boring people could not understand, but you should know how good they are. Do not stop to signs it.
by boyandthegeese @ March 7, 2010, 9:48 AM
cocorosie 4 eva!!!
oops type for my rant
aren’t pitchfork approved. duh.

If you don’t like CocoRosie, you’re not obliged to write about them!
I’m a french man, I’m 34 and I think that CocoRosie is the most artistic and magic band I ever heard.
by eveee @ March 8, 2010, 6:48 PM
Give me a break
Frenchy, why is it that you are obliged to write about this shit, shit music because you like it, but those of us who have a functioning brain in our head are supposed to shut up simply because we are not fooled by ridiculous posturing? Why is your opinion valid and mine is not? blacksand, did you really try to blast me for calling them trust fund babies and then in the next sentence call another band the same? Wow. Don’t get me wrong, I dislike Grizzly Bear as much as the next guy. I wouldn’t worry too much, they will go the way of Clap You Hands And Say Yeah! No one will remember them in two years time. If it makes you happy, do it. Insulting shitty bands makes me happy. You should see the smile on my face.
by unklekippy @ March 9, 2010, 7:57 AM
jesus h. christ
dear unkle kippy,
i have been reading down the comments and have seen several posts by you—dating to more than 10 days ago. why is that? why do you still bother? and who are you anyway? don’t you have something more important to do than insult “shitty bands”? it’s just a waste of energy. come on. opinions are only valid to whom they matter to (fans discredit the haters, haters discredit the fans). that probably includes my opinion of you, but right now i’m just asking you a lot of questions.
by e.small @ March 9, 2010, 10:42 AM
NOOOOOOO!!!!! MY CAT JUST EXPLODED. It’s allergic to fake french bands that suck.
by LAnne @ March 9, 2010, 11:54 AM
Well, e.small, isn’t that what this comment section is for? Y’know, comments? I didn’t see this labeled as the “heap praise upon bullshit” section, because then I definitely would have been nice. Obviously it is not a waste of energy, since you were compelled to respond. Of course you are right about the haters and fans, don’t be ridiculous. My comment space is just as valid as yours, that’s why Sub Pop doesn’t censor the “haters”. The arguments are fun, but if you seriously have formed an opinion of me based on a few comments in this forum you need to take a deep breath and think about how absurd that is. For all I know the Cocorosie ladies are wonderful, caring people and I do not know them personally. On the other hand, they make and market music to the public. That is what gives me the right to bitch and complain, whether you like it or not.
by unklekippy @ March 9, 2010, 1:08 PM
man, i don’t know. i just really don’t take the time to say, “MAN THIS BAND SUX WHY’D YOU GUYS SIGN ’EM?!” about bands I really hate, you know? that’s just not my thing. i just don’t understand haters. i don’t understand white supremacists or the people who comment on brooklynvegan.com. i guess i am just … disturbed by people who casually say they hate something, just as much as someone says they “love” something that they wouldn’t know what to do without said thing. i just kind of see people bitching and hating on the internet similar to people bitching at the workplace or at school or at home. the negative feeling emanating from someone’s bitching will ripple and affect everyone else. some people just ignore it, and some people feel bothered. just saying.
i’m just trying to understand people like you. the problem with the internet is that you can’t take everything at face value, i can’t see you or anybody’s faces. if i came across as supersupersuper angry, i was just a bit exasperated. just don’t troll. yeah?
by e.small @ March 10, 2010, 8:49 AM
thanks sub pop
it’s just wonderful i don’t understand how people are able not to adore cocorosie
but that’s not important, cocorosie is signed and i’m happy, i don’t care about other peoples opinions while we’re able to hear the new cd
by i'm.already.potty-trained @ March 10, 2010, 8:51 AM
I totally agree with e.small. There’s already so much negativity floating around, and it’s not doing any good. We should be able to respect people that step forward creatively, even if we can’t find common ground in the results. I respect everyone that works hard, looks within and finds a way of expressing themselves… and then connects with others.
Ofcourse everyone is entitled to an opinion and a place to voice those opinions. I think it would be appreciated though if it was done with the decency everyone deserves.
I am super excited about this new cocorosie album. I’ve seen them perform many times and have definately felt it, so yay for subpop!
by Heartkore @ March 10, 2010, 10:32 AM
If you need me, i'll be at the matador site
Well, this will be the last time I go to this site. You would appreciate some decency? Are you aware of what this label is famous for? What gave them the clout to be able to sign “nice” bands like The Shins and Postal Service? It sure the hell wasn’t decency. It was banned artwork on Tad albums, drugged out freaks like The Dwarves and last I checked, had nothing at all to do with decency(though it did have something to do with a little band called Nirvana, also not decent). Clear the pot smoke out of your head and get serious. Have you ever even heard a Pissed Jeans record, Asshole? Seriously, Cocorosie fans, be excited! Your band got signed to an incredible label with rich history, just like the now defunct label they were formerly on. However, your need for “nice” should not infringe on my right to curse on the ever lovin’ internets. Toodles!
by unklekippy @ March 10, 2010, 3:13 PM
Dude your sooooooo chessy
u for sure put a smile to my face.
you dont have to get all agro and shit
I just genuinely wanted to know why you called them that since I heard that before on the internet. no ones blasting you.no one is blasting you.freak.
by blacksand @ March 10, 2010, 10:55 PM
If this page was an episode of the Golden Girls...
…round about now would be a group hug brought on by an implausable, yet slightly heartwarming Deus ex Machina. Usually in the form of the slutty one ditching her latest beau or something to appease Bea Arthur. That analogy went all weird, but hey – it’s different musical tastes that pretty much attracted us to this label in the first place :)
by Foz @ March 11, 2010, 12:23 PM
i love cocorosie
some people like them, some not. its not a big deal.
un placer saber algo nuevo de estas mujeres. mil gracias por las buenas noticias.
by solana. @ March 13, 2010, 7:23 AM
CocoRosie is not your a-typical band…obvoiusly not too many ppl are open to raw art…real art is hard to appreciate.
by brendacal10 @ March 29, 2010, 11:36 PM
open your ears for the new era of music
this is one of the first bands that have mixed more than 5 different genres of music at the same time.. if you want to talk about guitars and a lot of distorsion and people screamin thinkin that they’re doing music NOT.. its noise..
this is art. and it is NEW and revolutionary.
sorry. for my bad words
by diodo @ June 17, 2010, 3:35 AM

Great choice! These young ladies are sooooooo talented. I am so glad I was able to order all their albums from your website! Thanks!
