It’s Mudhoney day every day at Sub Pop.
Ive been getting back into Mudhoney again, well listening to em again at anyway. They have been my fav band since the late eighties.
Ok, ive just found this site n i thought id tell a lil story.
I was in Melbourne in 1991? And id just seen Mudhoney at the Old Greek Theatre. Farkn awesome gig. Blew me completeley away. Mark walked on top of the crowd to the back of the hall still singing n at some point the band left the stage n the audiencee jumped up n tried playn the instruments. But the mixing desk shut em down at some point. Anyway at the end of the gig it was announced that they would play a little gig at The Tote.
What a mental show (Tote). As it went on everyone just got more n more pissed. Mark asked wot we wanted to hear n loads of people shout SONIC YOUTH!!!!!!! I cant remeber if they did but we all got even more pissed, the band included. Then they started swapping instuments n kickin their stuff over so the pissed up audience including me went stacks-on-the-band n stormed the stage. They all scrambled out from under us n left. Then they steamed us n i got Matt Lukin’s boots in my ribs n he broke 2 of em.
Best gig of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I First Heard of MUDHONEY Through The SUBPOP singles club! & everett true’s unbiased journalism shouting at the world about nirvana, mudhoney, tad & the seattle based scene from the beginning in’MELODY MAKER’ magazine, anyway i wanted 2 go see MUDHONEY ‘LIVE’ with TAD& NIRVANA in late 80’s early 90’s but being an addict i fucked-up! i could’nt go.& for the last 20 years everytime ive heard they are in london iv’e either been far too depressed(suicidal),in rehab or in jail! it took me over 20years to see one of my all time fave bands at the forum in kentish town, i took my nephew with me ,got there early for a drink & could’nt believe it in the pub we sat and met and talked to ‘dan peters’ & ‘guy maddison’,it was like meeting half the beatles for me, they were really down to earth nice fellas, & they signed our tickets & i had a photo taken with both of em’ too!.MUDHONEY have been a constant for me,when i lost all hope ,desire,creativity,self-esteem,everything went & iv’e wanted 2 die loads of times, then after not picking up my guitar for 5years or so i put on “SUPERFUZZ BIGMUFF” & something happened inside of me,i wanted to live & most importantly i wanted to play guitar & write songs again ,i thought i’d lost that forever!.so mudhoney lit that little spark inside of me again ,making me creative and hungry 4 a new band/group/music experiment etc.. & i’m hoping to go see the HONEY with my nephew again later on in OCTOBER,LONDON,KOKO and who know’s i would 100% love to meet “MARK ARM” &“STEVE TURNER” 2 of my guitar gods, who despite me losing almost all my life, the songs they’ve written & made have always been there 4me,and so long may they reign! MUDHONEY are my fave GARAGE-PUNKS this side of the 60’s. so MUDHONEY thanks for “THIS GIFT” my life.
