Sub Pop / Grunge - 30000086

  • 6272

Thurston Moore opens this book opens with the lines, “Bad name. Lame name, actually. But kinda funny in its lameness.” Grunge is an honest new book about, you guessed it, grunge, featuring photos from Michael Lavine and text from Thurston Moore. It’s hardcover and pretty wonderful to flip through.

Eugene Mirman / The Will to Whatevs Book - 30707980

  • 5917

A book authored by Eugene Mirman himself.

This review is from Amazon!
“A work of penetrating insight and rigorous scholarship. By turning our attention away from the ‘will to power’ and toward the more deeply significant will to whatevs, Mirman reshapes the debate in a way that will doubtless influence philosophers for generations to come.” (Joshua Knobe, professor of philosophy and cognitive science at Yale University )

Clearly a must-read for any lover of laughter and insight.

La Mano 21 Books / Wait, You're Not a Centaur - Nate Denver - RS-LM004

  • 2876

From our friends at La Mano:

The new Nate Denver book, Wait, You’re Not a Centaur possesses: 2-color covers on metallic pearlescent paper, gatefold endpapers, and full-length Nate Denver’s Neck CD (entitled “Ghost Alarm”) tipped into the back cover of each and every book (with a HAND-DRAWN ELEPHANT on EACH AND EVERY CD SLEEVE). 120 interior pages of pure Nate Denverness: fifty stories of exactly 50 words apiece, with tons of drawings and thousands of elephants. Intro by Adam Jones (of TOOL).

Here’s where the quotes come in:

“Ignore to your peril!” – Mick Turner (Dirty Three)

“I hate this book.” – Tom Araya (Slayer)

La Mano 21 Books / Diary of a Mosquito Abatement Man by John Porcellino - B-MOSQUITO-B

  • 2877

This is the first book out of Zak Sally’s publishing company, La Mano, and it’s amazing!

About Diary of a Mosquito Abatement Man:
When he was a young man, comics artist John Porcellino worked five seasons as an exterminator—a mosquito abatement man—and wrote about his on-the-job experiences in his award winning, self-published magazine King-Cat Comics.

Now, La Mano collects all the Mosquito Abatement stories that first appeared in King-Cat, 1989-1999, (many of which have been rarely seen before) as well as over thirty pages of new material done especially for this volume.

From the raw, spontaneous, punk-inspired energy of the early strips to the gentler, more reflective lyricism of the later ones, Diary of A Mosquito Abatement Man chronicles John’s difficult path from a nihilistic belief in the meaninglessness of life to a deep respect for the world as it is, and an acceptance of his place in it.

La Mano 21 Books / Recidivist- a book of Zak Sally's comics - B-RECIDIVIST

  • 2893

After 12 years of slinging a bass guitar and traveling the globe as a full-time music guy (with Low), Zak Sally released the third and final installment of his comic book series Recidivist on his own publishing imprint, La Mano. Five long years in the making and chock full of what the kids today call “bad vibes,” this 100-page hardcover volume is thick, dense and unsettling (no less an authority than the New York Times called Sally, “…an expert comic artist”). In 6 interlocking stories, people continually lose their keys, go places they should maybe not go, and eat things not necessarily meant for eating.

Is it a book, or a ‘zine? Is it a comic or a “graphic novel”? Who knows? Maybe it’s all of the above or none. In the end, it’s a bunch of black lines on white paper. And, it’s about all the normal stuff – anger, sadness, love, and people whose heads turn into monkeys.

Really, what more could you ask for?
