Eugene Mirman / God Is a Twelve-Year-Old Boy with Asperger's - SP806

Brooklyn resident, comedian and really great guy (and Russian immigrant) Eugene Mirman has, among a great many other things, released two previous albums: Suicide Squeeze Records’ The Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene Mirman (voted best of 2004 by Time Out New York and The Onion) and the 2006 genre-bending (not really) follow-up En Garde, Society! on Sub Pop Records (which Eugene thinks reached an Amazon ranking of about 2,045 in music!). Now, three years later, The Mirm (that’s what the crew on the Flight of the Conchords tour called him) is releasing the possibly offensive, but most likely charming God Is a Twelve-Year-Old Boy with Asperger’s. Recorded live in Chicago (the city where Abraham Lincoln lost his virginity) at the Lakeshore Theater (an intimate alt-comedy theater) in super-late 2008, this album is a collection of Eugene’s funniest new stuff.

Eugene Mirman / En Garde, Society! - SP707

  • 2111

Eugene Mirman is a comedian, writer, and film maker based in New York City (where, according to commercials, salsa is terrible). In 2004, Eugene released The Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene Mirman, a CD/DVD on Suicide Squeeze Records. The album was voted one of the Best Albums of 2004 by both The Onion and Time Out New York. His weekly standup-variety show Invite Them Up, which he co-produces with Bobby Tisdale and Holly Schlesinger, recently won a Nightlife Award from an organization called The Nightlife Awards. No one knows exactly who they are, but Tony Danza was there and so was one of the Golden Girls. In late 2005, Comedy Central Records released a 3-CD + DVD Invite Them Up set.

Recorded live at Piano’s in New York City in October of 2005, En Garde, Society! is Eugene’s second full-length solo comedy album with DVD supplement, and his first for Sub Pop Records. On the new album, Eugene blends things he notices in the world with talking about them in a funny way. Sometimes, without meaning to, he blows people’s minds. He’s sorry, but who else will tell you the truth about math teachers, religion and bears?
